 I need help identifying if what I have is Mescaline

Any help you could provide would be great, backstory:
I have 2.5grams of what I've been told is Mescaline. It is definitely not pure, as it looks nothing like pictures of pure Mescaline. What I have is a medium-light brown substance that looks kind of like salt/brown sugar. Doing some research the closest thing I could find is Mescaline Hcl, but that seems to be more of a powder, where the stuff I have isn't what I would call powder.
Having seen a lot of rumors of PCP being sold as Mescaline and finding some pictures of something called 'brown PCP' online, I am slightly worried as PCP is something I want nothing to do with.
Details:
It smells kind of 'earthy' maybe, hard to describe, it does NOT smell like 'chemicals'
It tastes very bitter
If this does turn out to be Mescaline, would it be advised to 'clean' it with some acetone, or just have it as is? Would a 400mg dose do the job? While I have not done Mescaline before, I am experienced with other psychedelics (shrooms, lsd, dmt).

interseting. my first thought would be a 2c-x or some rc but those are usually whit or very close to white. i have no idea what that could be. sorry couldnt be more help. ill be interested in what other people have to say

looks almost identical as to what was being passed around as "Saff", some fake X shit. Hell if i know what it was.
What I had, I licked my finger and dabbed a crystal, and tasted just the residue left on my finger. made me noticeably speedy, which puts it out of the running for MDxA. That's a dangerous thing to do with unidentified chemicals, but you're probably gonna eat it anyhow...

mescaline hcl can turn out black if too much heat or an excess of acid is used, pretty much it can be any color between white through black depending on the purity.

Judging by the dose, it could very well be mescaline.
Where'd you get it? I mean if the person you got it from extracted it themselves, then I'd say you're in the clear.
I really have no idea though.

I'm 89% sure what you got is mescaline.
If it's pcp you could eat a small amount about the size of an eraser head and start trippin HARD. PCP's dose is like 10mg and as far as i know everything else that can be passed off as mescaline has a really low ED-50 too.
how much did you pay for it?

I payed what I consider to be cheap, $50 Canadian for 2.5grams. It just doesn't look like any other mescaline I can find online, other then the color.

run some cold acetone over it to see if the brown dissapears. You could then recrystallise from hot water and see what crystals you get and compare them to pictures. M-sulfate has long needle like crystals.

I was actually considering it, will the acetone wash act differently depending on what kind of mescaline it is? mesc hcl, sulfate, ect?

Well, you'll be able to tell if its a salt or not haha. but nah, it wont act differently. making crystals will help alot though.

Do a small scale acetone wash, and if it gets it all out (brown shit) then eat it all yum yum.

put it in a filter paper and pour small bits of cold acetone on it. Make sure you keep the acetone just in case (evaporate it to see whats left over). Then you can rinse the cleaner stuff through the filter paper with a small amount of hot water and let it evaporate or something. This way it gets rid of acetone soluble inpurities, and water insoluble impurities.

Looks very similar to the .65g of brownish-orange material recovered by the originator of the Mescaline 3-step process.
I'd like to personally add that it looks like something I may have seen before and that I would in fact believe it to be mescaline, albeit the crudest form attainable (that I've seen so far).

my guess is HCl. If it was acetate it would smell, if it was citrate, there would surely be a sour taste to it due to residual citric acid.
does it smell a bit like cactus or urine or something? i know that sounds weird, but i just smelt mine (extract, not urine)

actually now that you mention it, when I tasted it it somewhat burned, and at first I thought it might be extremely sour, then the bitterness took over.

Looks like acetate to me. Using a tek like this http://www.dmt-nexus.com/forum/default.aspx?g=posts&t=4002 ; My acetate looked somewhat similar. Taste it, if it tastes likea horrible bitter cactus with a hint of vinegar then its acetate. Its not PCP, no one would sell PCP as Mescaline.

Here in Quebec,Canada people sell PCP as Mescaline all the time... and it looks like OP is Canadian since he said he paid in CAD. It would help to know from what province he is coming from. By lsd i assume you mean acid. acid is put onto blotter paper in the form of liquid because the paper absorbs it. The ink is already on the paper before the acid goes on, when they form together it is now known as "lsd"
I have not seen acid-blotter paper with cartoon characters on it since the 90s. I would advice you to rip or cut a 1 inch square length and width and try it out.. dont be scared.
When you eat the paper everything dissolves in your mouth. including the ink, lsd and even the paper itself. If nothing dissolves, it is not lsd.

So, doing some research I found this:
Isolation: when mescaline acetate is extracted from San Pedro, Achuma, or Peruvian torch, it can be isolated from the other alkaloids by washing it in cold MEK (use 10 ml per gram of alkaloids, and wash 2-3 times). The non-mescaline alkaloids dissolve in the MEK, while the mescaline acetate does not.
And then: Methyl ethyl ketone is listed as a Table II precursor under the United Nations Convention Against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances
Can this 'MEK' be bought? Is it watched? Or now that I know I have mescaline, is a wash even worth the trouble?

I THINK IT IS MESCALINE.And it also answers one of my questions.To an extent.After I did an extraction about 6 months ago I left some xylene(I think) In a quart jar.About 3 months later I went to retrieve my jar and found what almost looked like big chunks of broken glass mixed in with this nasty drank brown substance that looks very similar to what you have.
Fuck! I wish my digital camera worked! the Crysta's I have look so fucking nice.That is if I can wash the shit.I have no clue what it could be but now I believe it might be some form of mescaline.

Looks like wet sand to me. mescaline does not look like that.
