Agaricus Blazei Grow

Well folks--finally some good news to report about my Agaricus Blazei grow. i had been hampered early on by cobweb mold and took radical action to kill the varmint. i sprayed heavily with 3% H2O2 and let in the FC. here are some initial pictures in the jars:
these never did anything--could not get them to grow. i ended buying some spawn from a supplier before cold weahter set in. i had been working on some home compost and having boukou problems with actually sterilizing the lot--had to make do with the best i could--normally you only have to pasteurize this material. anyway, that's when the cobweb blighted me.
by october 9th i was actually getting somewhere with a cased topping and the mycelia was beginning to grow well i thought-
temperatures indoors were close to 90 F, then i moved outdoors during a little cool snap for a week and watered real well, let soak, and drained the excess. i have moved the FC back inside last week and now have young mushroom growth. i am happy about this, to say the least. see for yourself and share my happiness.
finally some real blazei shrooms check this upside down one here. doesn't know which end is up--ever felt that way?
there's a little abort tucked in here--looks like he's being reabsorbed
i understand these guys can get very large under the right circumstances. it is definitely a learning process, friends. looks like there are about 10-12 shrooms in 2 tubs at this time.
feel free to comment. i appreciate everyone who has contributed to help this happen.

update time--a lot has happened over the weekend as you'll see.
the lone stranger
pink gill stage before turning dark brown
since these were taken there has been a rapid maturity of the carpophores with awesome spore release. everything has turned a beautiful dark brown with zillions of spores everywhere. absolutely wonderful.

Great job, houdinihar. I'm glad to see results of a successful blazei grow.
What are your substrate and casing made of? Also, is the casing unpasteurized?
-------------------- I am looking for the following edible cultures:
- Chicken of the woods (Laetiporus sulphureus)
- Wood blewit (Lepista nuda)
- Cauliflower (Sparassis crispa)
My trade list of available cultures is in my Journal.

my substrate is a homemade compost comprised of grass straw, table vegetable throw-aways like lettuce pieces, carrots, potato peels, anything you can think of to add to to the pile, coffee grounds, some gypsum, but not enough. this stuff was working for a month before i used it. could have done better there let me tell you.
the casing is absolutely unpasteurized. i used verm, peat moss, and some cow manure from home depot-almost like dirt really. got it wet to field capacity. maybe the ratio was 40:40:20, pretty close to that anyway.
everything took around a month--seems longer though, but it wasn't. i watered a couple of times adding it to the tubs. my tubs are 12 by 12 by 3". as you can see there is plenty of overlay, but i wasn't going to disturb this first trial at all.
thanks for asking, gribi.

that is great solumvita. we all need motivaion from time to time--next time, i may need yours.

i have already tasted the fruits and there is no comparison really. A. bisporus is almost like eating straw at times--seems to almost have no flavor whatsoever. i can't see how any mushroom could have gotten that popular without a lot of media push. the oysters are way better than A. bisporus anyway. i will give a better eval in the future. that wasn't my reason for growing this time 'round. i do like the flavor though of the A. blazei and they taste much better raw than the oysters or A. bisporus.

That's cool Houdinihar. A good start with a difficult species. I really need to get my A. augustus spores going before they get too old...
Congratulations, Carsten

the last of the first flush darkening
here the shroom cap lamella are begining to darken. they will eventually turn a super dark brown before spore release. the veil looks likes it attached but it's just the angle of the lens.
nice single
when you punch in the detail on the singles you can esily see the gill structure.
the first flush has run its course now. i have rehydrated my substrate and am just waiting for the next primordia to awaken.

a little plate update. these guys are looking nice. much better than my first plates.
starting to show typical thin rhizo growth as stamets mentioned in his book, "the mushroom cultivator." have also inoculated several wbs jars with tissue, and 6 jars with brf and compost with new spore solution from this growth.
will keep you posted.

Where did you get your spores? or your spawn?
