Except for medical patients. For you recreational users however I hope it says illegal. For your worried about getting busted.....come to California. Youll get a slap on the wrist, and a small fine.

I'd rather not move to Cali. Your state budget is FUCKED and your cost of living is obscene. It's much easier to just NOT be an idiot with my drug use in order to avoid Johnny Law.

He probably lives in the triangle in Cali where there is a huge number of adult plants you are permitted to have as apposed to the standard 6 by most states, there are only 13 that have legalized Mari anyways. If it becomes legal, hes out the ass in some monster money... I pray all drugs come legal and all idealist's and extremist's get a third eye cleaning!

Tell that to the people in jail for it, theyre in prison, it isnt so much a slap on the wrist thats a naive assumption and totally disrespectfull to the people and the movement. You tell people to come out here, why do you think the attitude out here is the way it is?

Not everybody goes to doctors. There is a large sector of folks who get herbal treatments from their local healthfood stores and self medicate. These folks who self medicate for other things should be able to get their cannabis at the herb counter as well.
It is a PLANT, a cure all with many health benefits. Why do you want to restrict it's use to people that use the flawed health system?

Like someone said.....if your not a dumbass with your drug use, you dont need to worry about the law. And if you move to cali, worst case senerio is a $50-100 ticket 
Then you can use your cannabis, and also have a source of income for millions of good hardworking people, and out of the hands of the federal government

The benefits of blackmarket economy are far outweighed by the harms and pitfalls of that market being illegal.
If it is legal not everyone is going to buy it through government taxed shops.
Some are going to buy off their friend who grows or grow it themselves. Assuming that growing would be legal as well; since while tobacco is taxed it is not illegal to grow it on your farm.

I hope we can realize were at a point where we could all live fairly comfortably, working hard for ourselves. I am kind of your mad max type. Even so, power and water fall from the sky, food pops out of the earth. Life should, and can be simpler, easier, and more fulfilling.

btw, "responsible" use of herb is subjective. i personally think one can responsibly enjoy a joint whilst walking along a trail through a park in any given region of these United States. for many, it will enhance their enjoyment and ultimate connection with the natural surroundings. it will allow them to take a break from the fast paced hustle and bustle of the world by facilitating a state of total relaxation whilst one admires the natural beauty of the world. however, that wouldn't stop a cop from busting ass due to the completely unjust and unjustified federal laws established. what i consider responsible use could land me in prison and essentially ruin my life.
where you would call the person a "dumbass" for simply enjoying the fruits of this earth in a natural setting, i would call the situation an absurd injustice.

Why do people think if weed was decriminalized and not legalized you still wouldn't be able to grow your own? If someone grows it and sells it why wouldn't they deserve any profit? If anyone could grow their own shit the way it is sold will change. I doubt the government would decriminalize it and not legalize tho. They would make alot of money off of all of us.
I wouldn't complain if it was legalized. I would just grow my own.

Weed being illegal has many benefits. It encourages you to keep an eye on your amounts. If your making sure your under the "serious penalty" limit, then your probably smoking conservatively. Weed being legal would cause the price of this "weed" to plummet. It would be EVERYWHERE! This in turn would result in everyone carrying massive amounts and being high 24/7! While this may seem fun anything abused to an extreme is bad
Part of the fun growing up was not just smoking weed. It was finding a place to smoke it, the group of friends that surrounded it, the fun in knowing you were indulging in a vice that society deemed "evil". Here was this plant that was so much fun, and physically safe it made you ask "What else arnt they telling me"? Weed being illegal encourages you to question authority, and the government that restrains us! (if thats not psychedelic gentlemen.....I dont know what is  ).
Probation was one of the greatest blessings of my life. It made me sober the fuck up and take a long hard look at my life and where i was heading. If you get on probation, and CAN NOT STOP SMOKING WEED for a year, then you probably should be on probation  ! It will crash the little stoner safe haven you have created for yourself, and get your ass off the couch! But as mentioned, for people dying of aids, cancer, anxiety, back pain, etc. etc. It should always be granted easy access so they dont have to depend of western shamanism! (psychiatry)
Im not saying the current weed laws are up to par with the drug itself. There are still plenty of states that need to downgrade the punishments for weed (which is why i sarcastically said move to California). Weed needs to be decriminalized, and punished by fine MAXIMUM! But as for it being illegal, whats the big deal? Is it stopping you from being high right now? Are you gonna keep smoking anyway!????

legalization will make weed easily granted to the people with problems, there would be more factory's growing weed and if you watch the news or something you will hear that people that have problems and need pot sometimes don't get it because there is not enough.

I want to grow my own cannabis plants legally on my own land and relax inside my own house smoking my own pot.

I don't get to waste time/money "getting on", I don't want to get tailed by police and stopped/searched everytime I get a bag. I don't want to get raided by drug squads at all random hours that absolutely terrify me. I don't want a criminal record following me around to every academic and job interview for the rest of the time I'm alive.

I actually quite understand what the OP is saying, have thoroughly contemplated it, and almost sided with it at one point.
Basically, the argument is that there are people in the business that stand to lose out after legalization. The Emerald Triangle would be radically affected without the pot money flowing through, and I do feel sorry for those who are hurt.
However, I am reminded of the case of a young man that was shot around here in the bay area over a few pounds of weed. That should not happen.
The high profits drive crime, and hurt people, just as they benefit people. If you need the drama of illegality to fuel the meaning in your life, don't worry because there will always be injustice and fallacy from mainstream authority.
If you need some sort of special taboo to seek after, do some weird kinky sex things or some absurd spiritual rituals.
I live in a very pro-pot area, and I actually found a fairly unbiased source in the form of a police officer. That person told me how they observe a lot of shit revolving around the black market for weed.
The first time I bought weed on the street, the guy tried to get as much money from me as he could. He convinced the rather naive version of myself to buy an extra bowl for $5 that wasn't cured and became moldy. When I said I had never used it before, some stoner moochers tried to get their fix by "showing me how to smoke."
Although that adrenaline rush would be somewhat removed for novice teenagers obtaining and secretly using contraband, I think quite a bit of anxiety/paranoia can come to some people when they are high and realize/think society is against them.
A more sophisticated culture, and one that in the 21st century is necessary, is understanding people's need for inebriation. Regulations rather than prohibitions are put down to help moderate people's use of these intoxicants. Education can also help.

There is no argument. Period. If you make an argument against legalization it means you are promoting the incarceration of those who use said drug.

Although that adrenaline rush would be somewhat removed for novice teenagers obtaining and secretly using contraband, I think quite a bit of anxiety/paranoia can come to some people when they are high and realize/think society is against them.
A more sophisticated culture, and one that in the 21st century is necessary, is understanding people's need for inebriation. Regulations rather than prohibitions are put down to help moderate people's use of these intoxicants. Education can also help.

a lot of people would lose business for example, gas company's,lumber,clothing and many more but too drunk too think more, because hemp can be used as bio fuel for cars and lumber company's would lose money cause hemp can be used for construction, clothing because hemp fiber is super durable and they would slow sales on cloths.

The argument against legalization seems to be that people will lose money. I say too fucking bad, keeping people out of jail and stopping them from being labeled a criminal is far more important than making a few dollars.

In my opinion, hemp, as opposed to marijuana, will not really cause that much damage to other industries. The only real viable uses are fiber for clothing and paper, and hemp seeds/oil for food.
I hope we see a lot of hemp used in the future for paper, if it proves its ecological benefits.
As for hemp clothing, it has some good uses, but cotton will still dominate. As hemp cloth becomes more affordable, hemp clothing will slowly, but surely begin to occupy a modest portion of the textile market, maybe 10-20%.
The use of hemp food products is more of a cultural issue. I myself have found some products to have an unpleasant aftertaste, however I haven't tried roasting. In fact, I think I will try that tomorrow for dinner, hemp hearts with brown rice.

Well, also the fact that (excepting the US, land of the free) industrial hemp is legal in every other developed nation in the world.
The biggest change that would happen with legalization would revolve around the marijuana plant- people getting high. I see no reason why previously established growers/suppliers, with a good reputation, would lose customers if marijuana was legalized- the only ones in trouble are the shitty dealers we all hate.

I beg to differ. hemp was pretty much the number one cash crop in the world until it was made illegal.
It has already proven its benefits over thousands of years, we don't need to experiment.
Fibers can be used for construction too. They can build planks out of hemp that are stronger, more durable, and more flexible than wood. Not to mention hemp is vastly superior to cotton in both its durability, sustainability and strength.
The oil can be used for bio diesels, paint, plastics, varnish, essential oils, not to mention the food.
Hempseed itself is pretty much the single most nutritious plant we know of. It has the ideal levels of complete proteins in the right ratios for human consumption, and many other vitamins and essential fatty acids as well as fiber. A human being could live, quite healthily.. off eating just hempseed and water alone, with perhaps some vitamin C. Sure there are plenty of superfood plants like this, but hempseed is amazing as a healthy food.
The significance of hemp being freely available is no small thing. It is fucking huge. It would knock MAJOR dents in several industries if not topple them completely.
But at the same time it could help solve a lot of problems. It's not the solution to all of our problems.. but it would be a big fucking help!
As it can be grown virtually anywhere on the planet, nourishes the soil, and new crops every 3 months..it is a lot more renewable of a resource than crude oil, and trees.
The planet basically needs hemp. Or should I say our civilization

I see you are well informed, and I do not entirely disagree. I am just trying to say that I used to be more of the mind that hemp was miraculous and have tempered it somewhat.
Like it or not, it is basically a new market in this day and age. Woefully, it faces many unfair obstacles.
To name some of these:
Established industries - lobbying and protecting themselves, along with advertising and shelf space
Lack of technology - the proper machines not having been developed with the competition that a larger, more profitable margin would have allowed in the period 1930-2009
Consumer preference - not only do you have to be just as good as existing products, but you have to go out of your way to be substantially better and spend money to get that information out there
I may concede about its use in construction. I am most skeptical about uses in biofuel and becoming a mainstream food (as opposed to being a health food like flaxseed). It is an easy plant to grow, but there are many plants that "nourish the soil" and this is mostly a talking point for advocates.

I agree there are some large obstacles to overcome, but most of those established industries who would be effected by it are the ones that helped make it and keep it illegal in the first place. (ie Dupont).
No doubt the technology today exists to make hemp easier to process than ever. There were mass mills specifically designed for it by our own government during WWII when all the farmers were asked to grow it for the war. That was a long time ago. It is also notoriously easy to grow.
Most people are skeptical of its uses in biofuel because we are accustomed to the gas guzzling Internal Combustion Engine. When in fact the first model Ts were designed to run on bio disesel, and the panels on the prototype was made of hemp plastics, and this was in the early 1900s. Without a doubt, hemp oil could replace our demand for crude oil, massive farms turning over perpetual crops could supply most of the energy demands of the US with just a small fraction of the space. I forget the exact number but it is entirely possible under our current system even.
As far as food, it really is a superfood, more hearty than something like flaxseed. It really is a super nutritious, super easy to grow plant that can solve a lot of hunger problems we have on this planet...
Obviously there are huge mountains to climb as they have built a massive wall of bullshit, and the industries formed around this lie. So there would most definitely be collateral damage. But it's for the good of humanity pretty much. Screw up a few corporations or help restore the balance of the planet hmmm

The issue of legalization will always be brought up until something is done about it.
