im gonna try this one more time, and then im calling it quits. Your theory is interesting but not fact for this reason, ive been to multiple identical locations that match your every description, and nothing.

it has to be LOBLOLLY pine, the branches start higher up and are more perpendicular to the trunk (or sweetgums). maybe thats the prb with your spots

also loblolly are the pines with the longer needles. you want to look under just about every kind of tree, ive found them under all kinds of things like holly bushes, sweet gums, just about any ornamental bush they will cluster under. N. GA pm me if you get a chance i want to ask you a few things but nice finds.

As what weiliiinmyyard said, make sure it is loblolly pines. As for sweetgums, I never searched where these are located and do not know how weilii grow in relations to them.
I know that the weilii will grow directly from the loblolly decaying wood. This gives me hope that red clay is not the only direct connection to its growth and that there are weilii growing in a much larger area than what we believe.
There is something you are doing that is just not right. I too, have been to over a dozen spots and have found them in large qty's throughout. My last pics give somewhat of an idea of where I am looking and show that the way I hunt is by looking under the fallen debris.

If your hunting the woodland weilii, give it a couple days after rain for best results. Today you may find a few strays in the open near the areas that produce, and if you do check it several times for the next several days. The longer after rain the better chances they are growing in the thick stuff close by.

Yeah I found some fescue Weilii this morning at the patch I found on Saturday. Not as many, but hopefully with more rain today there will be more tomorrow.
I am going to the Lake Lanier area to search for some of these awesome pine woodland weilii later this week. I hope to find some because although the bermuda and fescue weilii are great, they just don't come in the large clusters like northgahunt has found.

this isnt my first year hunting weilii. Im not exactly sure what the situation is, and why this isnt working out for me, but I dont doubt youve found as many as you say, ive seen the pics. But youre the only one finding them in those quantities at this time, and im no expert on weilii but i can tell that they are weird about where they grow. Like the spot where ive found the most this year had red clay around, but the mushrooms were growing from dirt and mulch. I literally spent over 8 hours out by lake lanier yesterday. I found an abandoned park, right by the lake, with huge patches of downed pines, and not a single mushroom.

the worst part about weilii is they're elusive. Even if you are looking in the right spots, those particular spots may not be fruiting at the moment.

I agree, in most cases though they are fruiting nearby. It's almost like they grow in delayed cycles. I have found them 20-30 ft from other successful areas within a 3 - 7 days after my first discovery. They will be at the dead or decaying stage at the initial spot, go 20-30 ft deeper (thicker debri, little sun) and they will be freshly growing and healthy. So far the cycle seems consistent, I have never seen them growing in both areas at the same time.
The less coverage and debri areas produce 1-3 days after rain, then thicker debri next to these areas produce 3-7 days after rain. The thicker the debri = the larger weilii and the bigger clusters.
This has occurred up to 100' from my original discoveries and is like clock work.

I have seen clusters of 50 or more growing from the same base in fescue

This page gives the range: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psilocybe_weilii
So, yes, I do believe they can be found near the airport. Someone claims to have found some in Henry county as well, further south, somewhere in these forums, so I think the airport is a decent area.
