Stem Butts Rule. Here is one Psilocybe cyanescen stem butt, five days after placing in between a seperated sheet of soaked corrugated cardboard:

Thank You Paul Stamets! Infinite mycelium!

Fast, cheap, easy, effective.
As long as you have fresh mushrooms.

Contams have trouble with cardboard. Thats pretty much the point.

Paul Stamets From Mycelium Running:
"The sweet wood-based glues used in cardboard provide a boost to mycelial growth. I really do not know why, but contaminating green molds (like Tricholoma species) do not grow well as well on cardboard as many of the gourmet and medicianl mushrooms do."

Hey thats awesome!!!
I have some copelandias that are from last winters picks... After reading this thread, I took some cor. cardboard chunks like you have there and hydrated them, and crushed up two dried caps all over the went ridges on the inside and shut them like a sandwich... im going to put the two pieces in a tupperware with the lid cracked outside and keep them moist and see what happens in a few days... kickass! I live in Hawaii so I think I should be fine!
Thanks! FB

I hate to say it, but that probably won't work. It would need living tissue to properly colonize the cardboard.
With dried specimens, you have spores but no living tissue. You could probably do it on agar, but not cardboard. It would surely mold long before the mycelium colonizes the substrate.
I could be wrong though, so don't give up. Every experiment teaches us about growing mushrooms.

Yeah you are right! But you are also right on the fact that you never know... checked on them just a few mins ago... still moist, no excess water, plenty of fresh air flow and all is well so far... dried bits of the cap are def now hydrated and super blue... before they were white but they are really tiny bits. So yeah we will see what happens.... I wish i knew about this last year... holy shit man we had so many stem butts after we went to our favorite field we deemed "The Mothership" ha ha ha ha
I went surfing all day today and also go the joy of some good big shore breaks to ride... and now im sore as shit from body surfing and getting pounded by some big waves! Ahhh time for bed

Spores might germinate but I'm afraid that the rehydrated tissue will turn into nasty mush.

Nice growth. Ive been pondering using the cardboard tek w/ Cyanescens, making a culture syringe, innoculating spawn, and distributing to friends who want a patch. Just gotta get some Cyans growing down in OR first.

You don't need a syringe. Place the cardboard spawn between two layers of woodchips to inoculate them, or make bunker spawn with burlap sacks filled with woodchips by placing the cardboard spawn inside them.

wet cardboard, stem butt between layers, leave alone... thats it? Can't be, that's easier then making a cup of coffee.

Last year I had some luck growing out psi. cyan mycelium from sporeprints on popcorn substrate, however as time went on there was a contam problem. Perhaps some mycelium can be grown out using popcorn or other substrate then transferred to the soaked corrugated cardboard to rid the issue of contamination
At least it's an idea for those of you who have spores but no fresh mushroom species.
