I accudentally pulled up a bit of myc today when I got the cluster. So i twisted it off and stuck it in a different wood chip pile (prolly won't do anything, but who knows? )

Those luteofolius are beautiful! Great find!

Try it! It is not listed as a species known to regrow from stem butts in Mycelium Running, but that doesn't mean you can't experiment!
I tried with Psilocybe baeocystis, and they aren't listed. They are regrowing, but very slowly. The P. cyanescens however are taking off:

Humbled notation....That is currugated cardboard which is important to note. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/corrugated
Also hydration is a legitimate priority

1) Soak corrugated cardboard in water.
2) Peel a layer off the cardboard revealing the corrugation.
3) Place a fresh stem butt every so often on the corrugation.
4) Sandwich the stem butts in between more cardboard.
5) Place in a semi-ventilated container. Incubate indoors, or more slowly outdoors.
6) Mycelium!
Some common species known to grow well with stem butts in hydrated cardboard:
Agaricus Augustus, the Prince Agrocybe aegerita, Pioppinno Chlorophyllum rachodes, the Shaggy Parasol Hypholoma sp. Morels Pholiota nameko Pleurotus sp., the Oysters Psilocybe azurescens P. cubensis P. cyanescens P. cyanofibrillosa P. subaeruginosa Sparassis cripsa, Cauliflower Stropharia rugoso annulata and other Stropharia sp. Trametes versicolor, the Turky Tail

Psilocybe cyanofibrillosa grows at about the same speed as the baeocystis mycelium. Hell, they're both slow as hell even on MEA.

You guys that have found cyans already are lucky dogs. The weather projections for next week are looking downright awful, with temps climbing back towards 70. Looks like where I live we are in for another late October start to the season. I always get my hopes up, and then find nothing 'till around Halloween.

Now that is an amazing find. You should take prints for sure. I've never found baeos but they sure look all funky like them. You got some nice mature ones there.

Certainly looks like a possibility, but wait for that spore print.
I can't see any bluing in those pics, do you have a better shot of the bruising?
Found in the forest huh? Growing out of what?
Very interesting and nice find!
Oh and Caphillkid, if you look hard enough you will find them. They are there, just not in huge numbers yet. If you have to wait until Halloween to find them you either aren't looking in the right places, or aren't looking long enough.
Good Luck!

yeah i found them along this half-assed trail that had an irrigation hose down the middle of it. they were just under this baby tree mixed in with dirt and wood chips. sadly my real camera is dead so i had to use my phone. ill post pics of the spore print as soon as they're done.

Anybody had any luck in Oregon yet? I usually start finding cyans near the end of October but some years earlier than others..

Well...sure there are definitely cyans out there already, as you've found some and so have others. I live in the heart of the city (see my screen name) and it tends to be warmer here than other places. Also, it isn't a matter of looking long enough or in the right places as I have multiple patches of my own, plus other patches off property. I've hunted cyans for over 10 years both here in Seattle as well as Tacoma. The season is actually very consistent in those places. In my experience the peak of the season is always Halloween to Thanksgiving. There is a good mix of mature specimens as well as pins. Of course things usually get going around now, but I don't waste too much effort when I know what will be popping up in a few weeks. I'm stoked you guys have found them already though. Personally I'm not much of a tripper anymore so I can wait and enjoy my beer and pot until then.
