P. Weilii have given me a tough time for the same reason. I have found shrooms appearing similar to yours in that image and been told it was not weilii. There is a post somewhere on this forum that explains some of the better methods for distinguishing weilii from its look-a-likes.
Even with the knowledge of the post I just mentioned I have yet to find and confirm any weilii. The search is the fun though, and find them I shall.
Those do look exactly like weilii, though. I would take a spore print and look for the blue/black bruising.

It looks like the one in this picture has purple spores all over its backside. It also looks exactly like hundreds of weilii I have picked this season. See if it bruises and take a spore print, I'm not convinced that one in the grass is not a weilii.

I have a question...
People say NOT to wash psilocybes when they are fresh. With wild 'shrooms like weilii I don't understand how you could clean some of them off without washing. I understand the reasoning, that psilocybin is water soluble, but how much so? I mean, I pick some of these damn things in the rain. Seems like if a quick 15-30 second wash "would seriously impact potency" then you had better scratch picking immediately after a rain. I'm really frustrated because I've done so much searching and there isn't a consensus. I've tested bruising on washed VS cleaned with fingers without water, and I notice no difference. Oh, except for it being a whole lot faster and easier to wash away the bits of grass and dirt that get on the caps/stems. People say, "just knock off what you can and let them dry, then clean more." That's nonsense. I tried it and pieces of grass dried into the stem and were impossible to remove. Sure, it works to an extent, but when you have a cluster that grew through the pine straw, or grass cuttings, your kidding yourself that you'll get them close to clean. ESPECIALLY with giant clusters, so much shit gets up in between those things. You'll be munching dirt and grass/pine straw. I don't mind, but if its unnecessary I want them clean.
Conclusion. So I ask you, the weilii hunters, "How in the hell would a quick wash be any worse for the potency than sitting in the rain for the entire life cycle?"
My opinion. It's not. People just like to whine. Run the bases of your stems under water and get rid of that fucking dirt and grass, people, your not a cow.
Please, tell me I'm wrong. Oh, but if you do, I would like to see an actual experiment or some type of convincing anecdote. Not the same no-brainer lines that I have mentioned.
VENT OVER.

i rub them off the my thumb and thumb nail. usually gets most of the dirt off without have to add time to how long it'll take to dry them.

I just get a wet towel and give every cap and stem a quick rub. Get the grass and dirt off without actually submerging it in water. The towel will get so purple you can't help but know they are active and tasty

thanks Weiliix - I went back to a patch after hitting it yesterday just to see it's progress. It had maybe 8-10 small guys so I left them to grow a little bigger, maybe this weekend rain will help!

I've got this one patch on the edge of a treeline, it's about maybe 20 long, very thin. Do you think it' worth checking the wooded area near it. There's taller grass, maybe 10 feet before the treeline and I haven't found anything here. Anyone find new patches near theres, If so how far away?

Beautiful specimens, I hope to get some free time to do a little *searching* for these beauties Any luck in the Chamblee, Sandy Springs, Dunwoody or East Cobb area?

Yes, all the time. Try to imagine wear the water would run off in a heavy rain. Along these areas look through any debris, tall grasses and baby pines. Usually at the base of the pines and tall grasses there will be small clusters. I like looking in the debri, since this is were the larger clusters grow and big quantities.
Try 3-4 days after the last rain for best results. I have found them still growing 7 days after last rain, just not in huge qty's. I have found that weilii grow in abundance, if you find some then more are near. They just may not be growing all at the same time so it is important to keep checking in this time frame.
I find it hard to believe that some people are having trouble finding these. You really have to move stuff to find the large patches.
I picked about 40 lbs, filled a landscape trailer full of decomposing pines, mulch, clay and pine needles. Then mixed everything together into a rich chunky compost. All you could smell was weilii. I spread this mixture throughout a prime area that had a lot of dead pines and water run-off. Now I am waiting to see if this will produce anything in the future.

If this is a pic of what you posted, then my first instinct is that its a weilii. Did you take a spore print? Any bruising?
I have seen a lot of so called weilii posted on this site lately, some of these look nothing like the weilii I have ever seen and there is no way I would even try them. Weilii have a very distinct smell that gives them away and there looks are pretty distinctive.

As distinctive as they may be, there are 2 or 3 look a likes out there that can still confuse. One of the best field methods I've read on this site is to try to snap the cap in half. A weilii simply will not snap, it will only bend.

no it is blue staining showing through the cap, mold would be fluffy.
psilocybes that get rained on do this.
