I found some of these at a boyscout camp in N GA and found myself intrigued by them.

I found a bunch of that Indian Pipe on the silver comet trail earlier this week.

Very interesting.

Yeah its always nice to see mushrooms in their natural habitat, not just in a big pile...BORING!!!

Weilii are such a beautiful mushroom, so why take all the beauty away (in my opinion) by stacking them in a big pile and taking a pic.

Weiliixhunter: if you take pics in macro mode they will become large when clicked on.

P. Weili ID Help, Thanks [Re: Olympus Mons]
    #11136668 - 09/27/09 10:03 AM (2 years, 7 months ago)

Habitat:
These mushrooms were found this morning after the continued moderate rain in the ATL area. They were found growing out of the ground under a mix of pine and deciduous trees. The ground was covered in pinestraw and moist.

Gills:
Deep brown to rusty maroon.  Fairly consistent in density and not extending past the end of the cap.

Stem:
4 to 7 cm. in length. About 1 to 1.5 centimeters in diameter.  Same brown/rusty maroon color as the gills. Does not seem to bruise at all in the stem. The texture is fibrous and fairly dense.

Cap:
2 - 3 cm in diameter.  Slightly moist on top and is very dark brown to black.    The colors darken to black as the end of the cap is approached. The cap is spherical and convex, hanging over the stem in an "umbrella" like fashion.

Spore print color:
I will update this post with the spore print when it is ready later today or tomorrow.

Bruising:
The cap grows blacker as it reaches the edge but I can not tell if this is from bruising or just the natural color of the mushroom.

Other information:
Smells like bold mushrooms.

they look like weilii, but they look like they're completely waterlogged

Should I dry them out and then look for more signs of bluing/blacking?  Also, once my spore print is done I guess I'll have more factors to check off.  Finally, is a waterlogged mushroom still viable as an edible tasty once dried out?

Nice pics Weiliix. When's the last time you picked this spot? I checked a patch today and had nothing. What's the best time to check a spot after rain or between flushes?

it had been about 5 days.........and the best time to check in my opinion is all the time i'm always on the hunt........ especially after all the rain we just got they should be popping up everywhere

Today me and my buddy found some good spots. One was near a road, but behind some things so that it was completely hidden from other people.

It was about like this every foot or two for a very large area:
