the one next to the georgia hat is by far the biggest weilii i have ever seen it weighs 115.5 grams wet.

What type of habitat are you finding these in?

Urban or woodland?

ok. a quick question on the weilii's... it just stopped raining here after raining all day. everything is soaked! does it take a little while before I should go out and look, or pretty much right after it rains will be a good time? thanks in advance.

haha the x police captain(still pretty high up) for your county is my dad's drinkin buddy and one night he dumped a plate of food in my lap after he took me to the liquor store and bought me tequila and cigars so i whopped him and we locked up and broke a glass door. good ol' cobb county

to answer your question yes its been raining so much so often that unless u were there right before it rained last time, it might be a good idea to check. i like picking them inbetween showers. they dry just fine and are less dirty

It was raining when I went out this morning. Came back with about 30 beauties. The biggest I've seen from a lawn yet. Plenty of over-matured fruits I left to do their thing, and plenty of young pins that will be good as gold in two days time!

This weather is awesome for them as long as your patch is on the side of a hill, and out of the flood waters

let me ask a random question...

if it's a really good season and they're sprouting up in mad numbers like we've seen displayed here, and then all this flood water rushes in...  does that mean that the flood waters are pretty much doing what that one dude was doing by mixing it up in a bucket to spray everywhere?

essentially, is the flood water spreading the spores since there were so many dropping spores before the flood came?

i think i may have to pop in wake of the flood today!  :stoned:

i couldnt say. weilii are fickle. and im still pretty unsure about alot of things that occur with these mushrooms.

I don't think that the water washing the spores all around will sprout mushrooms everywhere. I think it takes time for the mycelium bed to start before it will produce fruit. maybe a couple months?? IDK, please correct me if I am wrong.

well i don't know the science behind it but it would seem to me that this rain is making the weilii pop up in a lot more places than i have ever seen.  i haven't been to a place yet that didn't have at least a few and most of the spots i've been to have yielded a lot. i actually just got back from hunting and found a decent amount when i find my camera i will post pics

the mycelium is already there. The rain gives it moisture to produce fruit bodies. After this rain there will be fruiting patches to the end of the year in my opinion. If you guys want to find the biggest fruit bodies ever go out and look in a couple days. The constant moisture is going to make them swell to insane proportions.

I would think that the downpours certainly help to spread the species. I bet there will be new patches popping up in the next year or two as a direct result of the flood waters spreading spores downstream assuming the flow passes through the right environment. (Pinestraw covered forest floors, for example) Highly doubt a new patch will have time to develop and fruit before the season is up. Won't know until we check, now will we?

...and yes, phishhead is right. About the fruit sizes AND it seems to me the ground will be soaked enough to produce for a long while, even without more rain. Combination of evaporation in the sun keeping humidity at ground level up, as well as the dew at night, it's safe to say that if you have a patch it will continue to produce until its too cold to do so any longer.

it's flooding everywhere.  roads washed out, bridges washed out.  kind of scary.  the creek that runs behind my house looks like the freaking mississippi.

I found a small patch in a park in Paulding, but there are no others around anywhere. I got maybe 15 out of the patch the other day, and left a couple mature/rotting ones there. About how long do they take to grow back? I looked all around the park in all the nearby fields and there was nothing. I've been looking in the woods for hours every day around the area. The woods here are completely covered in pinestraw and seem like the perfect habitat for weilii but no luck there so far...There are tons of other mushies growing around and many look-alikes, but none other than that small patch I found. Anyone know of/willing to share any good areas to look? Paulding just doesn't seem to have very many.

does a food dehydrator work well for drying weilii?
