HUH, When you think you got the P. Weilii pegged it does some other shit. NorthGA., How the Spore trailer deal turn out? any growth?
I haven't noticed any as of yet, but that hasn't deterred me from still trying. I have been hand placing and stomping tons of the shrooms throughout the woods too, they should be safe since a lot of people seem to be giving up on the woodland var.
Don't stomp 'em, drop 'em somewhere and I'll continue to spread the Weilii Love BRUH!!! I'll only eat a few though!!! just a few!!!

Today I found two sticking out of an anthill!
I found these today growing from white oak wood debri...would of left them but wasn't sure if the cold weather would get them.
I lifted other debri in the same area and spotted new caps trying to push up...I did leave these to see what happens. It still amazes me that these will grow on a hardwood.

they love hard wood i mean all psilocybe it last long that most pines woods ....usually they use the same patron around here . pines and oaks , i will love to hunt around the georgia area some day .

I still dont understand why there range is so small. It has not spread very much since they were discovered.
Psilocybes are picky.
It may be spreading though. I added another 2 counties to the map just yesterday.
More people need to do more experiments with spore water and pesticide sprayers.

Did you expand the map because of this post http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/11254261#11254261?
To look in these three counties would take some time unless they were right on the county line. I would like to know more specifics and maybe see a pic or two, especially since these were all discovered during work. Not trying to cause an issue, but something seems off with the little info that was given.
I would hate to see a bunch of people get on here and start claiming new discoveries without giving some sort of back-up.

Can somebody help me distinguish between Galerninas and the Weilii? They look very similar in appearance to me.
Below is a picture of a few Galernias. Can somebody please point out some tell tale differences? I've heard both bruise blue/black and the caps look similar to me. Much appreciated!

Galerinas don't bruise blue, have a brown print, and in my opinion have wider gill spacings then P. weilii. EDIT: The 'blacking' of G. marginata that I've heard of is usually jet black. Always print your fruits. Also, Welcome to the Shroomery!

Ok, so. The galerina will spore print brown whereas weilii will print a more black color?
By print your fruits, you mean spore print correct? Furthermore, do the galernia's have a distinguishing odor to them?
EDIT: Are there any other poisonous/deadly/toxic look alikes to the weilii?
I appreciate all this assistance. This place is excellent.

I'm not sure about any smell from Galerina (though smell is my weakest sense ) As to look-alikes no deadly ones if you know what you are looking for in my opinion. Some people confuse Psathyrella velutina with P. weilii, but P. weilii is said to smell like cucumber/sweet/even likened to a peach. Once you know P. weilii's smell, so I've heard, you will never forget it (in a good way). P. weilii's print from what I've heard is a purplish/blackish color. EDIT: Here is a remedy for the Psathyrella problem: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/1577376#1577376 and this Weilii Habitat North GA thread is a gold mine. Search through it.

Already looked at the Psathyrella thread and the majority of this thread here. Those were, for the most part, my two lingering questions. Thats the thing though, if you could tell me which look alikes are poisonous, i'd study up on them and avoid them. I'm not sure which to look into in the first place.

Psilocybes have a smooth cap for the most part, especially P. weilii, so other than Galerina, I can't think of any deadly look alikes. Really to my knowledge P. weilii makes itself pretty obvious. Another feature that distinguishes P. weilii is the flocculous stem, as in this pic: (the zigzag looking markings are what I refer to) http://files.shroomery.org/files/09-37/255153859-mushrooms_088.jpg

According to this website (http://botit.botany.wisc.edu/toms_fungi/may2003.html) Galerina autumnalis has floccules on its stipe as well, but as you can see they look different. Remember though that Glerina and Psilocybe are sister clades. P. weilii usually stands out, but there may be others who aren't so revealing.

@ Northgahunt - How exactly do you find area's hit by the pine bark beetles? From the road its very difficult. It seems as though you'd need a helicopter or something of the sort.

I have found a majority just by driving around. Try to look for the dead standing ones, most likely there are several that have already fallen in that area. Also have found a few areas while walking in the woods.
When you find one, and you see a lot of new ground cover and small plants, chances are you will find little. Look for these areas that have little growth and where you can still see the clay in many areas. Especially where it looks like water passes through during a heavy rain. These areas seem to produce the most, imagine how the water flows and where spores may get caught. That is where you will find many.
Make sure to really look under debri and bases of small pines and weeds. Usually not visible while just walking by, have to move things around.
hobomusashi posted a pine beetle affected area map of ga on pg 6 of this thread, this will give you a great start. http://www.gfc.state.ga.us/ForestManagement/documents/SPBPredictionforGA09.pdf
Good luck.

some may abort because it's oddly cold for recent weather. doesn't mean the weilii will stop overall
