Portabella mycelium
    #1062552 - 11/18/02 12:31 PM (21 years, 4 months ago)

What should the mycelium look like on a petri dish, what are the optimal temp's for mycelium growth, and approx. how long should a dish take to colonize from a tissue sample?

It is a conspiracy - they grow out the genetics so that clones of the original fruits will fail and decline once cloned.
The mycelia should look pretty thin and linear. Similar to Ag Brunnescens.

Well, strains that are selected specifically for portabella production are already quite genetically far from the common-or-garden strain. It's kind of like what happens in show dog breeding: they set strict guidlines for genetics, and as the dogs reach that "perfection", reproduction becomes fraught with problems of a genetic origin.

Plus, as mentioned, lots of lab developed strains are also selected for their ability NOT to revert back to vegatative state.

I'm growin some portabella in some jars, and I'm growin from agar dishes, and it takes QUITE a while longer to colanize, esp waiting for the 1st signs of it. It's painful waiting for some kinda sign, and I was pretty much about to give up, but than again, I'm a lil impatient since this is my 1st Portabella try.
