The thing I noticed about Yakuspa's mystery shrooms is the radial lines on the cap, like spokes on a wheel.  Is it true that psilocybes never have that radial marking?

Hi Inski, thanks for the ps.aucklandii info and I think you may be right, that the blueing was rub off.

Some of those are in the genus Gymnopus and you shouldn't eat those.  Others are Psilocybe subaeruginosa.  If you look very closely you should be able to tell the difference even when dried.

Ok thanks AR, I'll inspect each and everyone. I've had a look at the gymnopus species and there are many. Some do look very similar to subs at various stages of developement.

Can you tell me what to look for when they are dried? Should I be looking for blueing or is the stem a better give away or is it a combination of stem, cap etc.

I know the answer maybe complex but at least the most obvious indicator would be useful.

Thanks in advance

Probably a good dose of death or perhaps just a bit of hospitalisation.

Don't eat them!  Start keeping an eye on the hunting threads and read the identification guide on Erowid to start getting a good idea on what you are looking for.  With a bit of research and an aptitude to learn and educate yourself, you'll recognise them instantly and wonder why you ever struggled!

Good luck  :mushroom2:

You will need to look very carefully at dried material.  Most of the indications are still there, but it is much harder to see them.

The #1 thing is gill color.  The spores will be mostly developed, turning the gills the color of the spores.

Take a close look at the texture of the cap and stem, gill color, odor, annulus and any staining reactions where the tissue is damaged.

Appears to be a truffle or puffball.  High res pics of them in their habitat and a clear pic of a cross section would really help.

YAY! Just found a good thirteen shrooms in my backyard! And I found two mysterious shrooms. They were found at the same place as the other subs, but they have dark blue-ish caps. It looks like they have blueing all over, but you can still see some orange. I'll try get some pictures asap.
