GROW YOUR OWN RYE

I have to drive over an hour to get rye so here is my new Idea
I took a Rubber Bin drilled some holes in the bottom.
One bag of potting soil and a few quarts of spent coffee.
I also used 1 cup of rye berries.

Once these get tall stalks I cut the tops off, dry, shake and I have some home grown rye. I keep it in a Rubber Bin to make sure no other types of grass or weeds get in.
After you cut the tops more grow back, Its a never ending supply. Unless you have cold winters, then you may want to get a good light and keep them growing indoors.

Props my man! I have a 10' x10' patch I grow rye on for my little hobby. I am also in the process of making my own coconut coir because I have an endless supply of coconuts. I love self-sufficiency!

Rye is much better and winter wheat and rye are virtually the same seed. Also I am pretty sure that almost all grain seed originally came from the rye seed and is a mutation of the original!

Rye and Hard Red Winter Wheat are almost identical; wheat may even be more desirable for soaking and simmering. Tested it myself, wheat actually had a slightly larger harvest than rye for the same strain isolate.
Cool man! I once spilled some rye and wheat into my sink drain, then little spouts started to pop out I'll give this a shot, I love growing things! Myk

Updated pics. The rye is standing at 7 inches. I'm letting the rain water it. Its growing very fast at only a week and 2 days.

Don't say that, I think I will be alright. So far so great. This one cup of rye should bring a lot more plus I was thinking I could use the cut stalks hydrate them and do a straw grow.

Sounds like a plan.. We are starting a medium sized box garden at my house. I wouldn't mind adding a rye patch

I will see what I can get from this small tub I don't see how this wouldn't be economical I took about 60c worth and I will get more than I put in. I don't live close to a redmill or a wild oats. So for me this makes sense. If I get 4-5 of these tubs I will have enough rye to keep my hobby going steady all year for years to come.

Nah I think it would be very unlikely that ergot would get a foot hold. Looks awesome though, I'm going to get a pc this year so I can finally move from BRF.
