Tattoo!! What kind of moisturizing cream to use?

So last weekend my gf got a tattoo started, on her back. It's going to be a Dali painting that has been reworked into something special for my gf. Looks great so far!!!
Question is...what type of moisturizing cream is ok to use on tattoos? My gf said it's either oil-based or water-based that is OK to use, the other one isn't - but she can't remember which one!
We have some Jergen's water-based moisturizer...is that ok to use?

A & D first aid ointment works wonders. It is unscented and undyed, so it's not going to cause any irritation. The only problem is that it is kind of thick, so you want to use as little as possible, and also make sure only to apply a couple times per day. Usually once when I get up and then again before I go to bed is enough, with a little extra if my tattoo gets itchy during the day. I just got my first tattoo finished on Wednesday, and A & D already has it looking healthy and almost healed.
If you do decide to go with a lotion, make sure it is lanolin and fragrance free. If your girlfriend is allergic to lanolin she can get a rash which, when it goes away, will also take the dye from her tattoo with it in splotchy patches.

This is truth.
I only use a thin layer of A&D oinment for a few days keeping them nice and clean.
Btw, very sweet tattoo. please post the finished product when done My back is my canvass as well (pics in gallery)

If not mentioned yet A&D ointment works good. anything with bacitracin(sp) in it.

People use all kinds of different things. Any kind of unscented lotion, preparation H, tattoo goo, vitamin E cream.... chapstick is a new one, I've never heard that before. I wonder how effective vaseline would be?
What did the tattoo artist recommend?

The lotion should be dye and fragrance free, and avoid anything with lanolin or bees wax in it. And yeah Jergens water based lotion works fine.. it's oil-based lotions you want to avoid.
A&D ointment or whatever is great for the first couple days, then should just use a nice lotion to keep it moist.
