Heck with you central/southern Florida people. We need some of that rain to come up towards the Panama City area...I'm getting anxious.

Damn, man. What area are those from?
I just went out tonight and found a pretty decent amount (woohoo, my area is finally starting to produce) but nothing like that.

I have picked roughly 3 pounds of cubes so far this year which I think is probably above average. I wish I could find some more meanies though, but I'm not complaining :P
101 cubes, ~2lbs, 6/29/09

59 cubes, ~1lb, 7/1/09

What are you using to dry all those? Should I just get a dehydrator?

I lay them out on cardboard and put a fan on them. Between that and the A/C already running most of my mushies are bag-ready in 24-48 hours.

The only problem you're having is finding doo? Get off your lazy arse and go find a cow field. I wish the only problem I had was finding some cow doo. Central/South Florida is ridiculous right now.

Going on my first Shroom hunt, and having no experience, expect to come back empty handed. In line with my expectations I am taking little more than a camera, knife, and tackle-box (storage). Will post later on findings.
Also taking my "lucky" treads.

You can't go out with that attitude! The best advice I can give is ,do your research! Know what your looking for, what their habitat is, if the conditions have been right and any look-a-likes that grow in the same area. Make sure you check well shaded areas.
Good luck, and may the force be with you.

Entered one pasture and observed two others during my first outing: The first (4 cows, approx. 300 sq ft) was surrounded by a 8ft chain-link fence with barbed-wire discouragement on top. The pasture itself was unkempt, so much so that weeds obscured vision below 1 ft. The guy mowing outside shot me a mean-mug so I traveled on. The second (15-25 cows/calfs, approx. 1 acre) was split into a mud-pen/feed area and a grazing area with a shaded muddy area. I entered and began searching in earnest. Both the grazing and mud area seemed devoid of fruiting bodies. I left after 15 minutes. The last area was so far off I couldn't tell if cows or goats were grazing. Approach was risky with laborers in the surrounding fields so I pussed out and headed home.
The majority of property in the area belonged to nurserys with little livestock to be found anywhere (mostly horses). I`ll try again tomorrow but will head north (towards central Fl.) rather than south (everglades) this time.
Image 1 - You can see that it had rained recently, and was luxury-sedan friendly.

Wow. All I can say is I am inspired. Palm Beach County has gone through so much redevelopment leaving me with fields of empty housing instead of fields of cows. All the spots that were local are no-more. I am definitely going to have to find some new hunting grounds.

I haven't been out hunting many times, but I see mushrooms that look very similar to the one's posted here, but not in cow fields. Just in the grass on the side of the road or yards and want not. Are there mushrroms that look very similar?

Mushrooms look similar sometimes from far away, especially while driving by them with an untrained eye. Psilocybe cubensis is a unique appearing mushroom and is most commonly found in pastures rich in cow manure. It's not impossible to find an exception to the rule here and there, but it would be like finding diamonds on a common ocean beach.
