Easier Than Cubes!!! * 12
    #10605734 - 07/01/09 07:00 PM (2 years, 10 months ago)

Why don't more people grow Mexicana A, or other Mexicanae like Atlantis #7, Tampanensis, Jalisco... etc?

My GOD! These things grow themselves. You can't beat their bulk!

You want stealth? I got your stealth right here! Keep 'em in a box until they are ready to harvest.

Hell, they fruit themselves outdoors, even in a dry climate.

Honestly, sclerotia is where it's at! Grind it up and put it into chocolate, it both tastes and feels like nuts.

What is wrong with us?

Mexicanae not Cubensae should be the beginner's fungus of choice.

I can't believe this stuff is not more popular.

I've got tamp and atl7 going now, glad to hear such great reviews. You're using rye grass seed?

Truffles are fruits.

A casing a shotgun and patience will provide shrooms... Potent shrooms (like pan cyans)... And prints.

I like RGS because it is cheap and easy to remove from sclerotia.

Rye grain, or any other grain will also work.

Also, you don't need to harvest until you're ready (well, after nine months they can start to rot) the longer you wait, the more potent they seem to be.

I've got WBS going, I'm going to try spawning it. I'll post if it works.
And I'll try fruiting the wbs cased too, that should yield some fruits.

And they DO produce mushies... BUT you get to harvest once before you fruit.

Do that with a cube.

I was planning on coir and stuff. Coffee, castings, the usual. Try an assortment.

So you are saying harvest the sclerotia, then spawn the remaining grain?

In a free society, the presumption must be that people can smoke, snort, eat or inject whatever they wish, so long as they do not harm others. The burden of proof should rest on those who would ban marijuana, not those who want it legal. That burden has never been met.

Sounds fascinating!!!

I'm a real noob. First post, and you, Cervantes, convinced me to register with your Race thread.

I had to check out your journal.  Now please, if you would be kind enough to indulge, please go into some detail about the cultivation of Mexicana and it's chatacteristics compaired to Cubensis.

Since you are advocating it as an option for the newcomer, please consider that such people may constitute a portion of this threads readership.

Thanks...
I'll listen

I like your enthusiasm.  I've always wondered about them.  I just never took the time to expand my horizons with them.  This hobby has so many new things to try every day that one can hardly find the time to keep up.  So far the extent of my successful experience is with who knows how many strains of cubes a dozen or more I think, two strains of copelandia, and several oysters.

So tell us more about these wonderous critters.  I'm interested.  What is their mycelium like?  Thin and whispy?  Thick and cottony?  Something altogether different?  What do they eat in bulk?  Poo?  Compost?  Wood lovers?  What is the colonization time like compared to cubes for both the spawn and the bulk?  Is it fast on the rye?  Don't the sclerotia take forever?  I thought I read that takes quite a while to form invetro.  Not that I care.  I'll let those lil guys sit around.  I got the jars that's for damn sure.  Are the sclerotia easily differenciated from your spawn?  The pictures I've seen ... well I guess I just can't tell what I'm looking at.
