Psychedelic mushrooms seized in Waynesboro drug bust

WAYNESBORO — In the largest seizure of its type in the city’s history, Waynesboro police carted away 107 Mason jars of psychedelic mushrooms Wednesday that were being grown inside an apartment on New Hope Road.
Felix Christopher Gutierrez, 31, of Waynesboro is charged with possession of a Schedule I controlled substance with intent to distribute.
The seizure took place in the 1700 block of New Hope Road at the Parkway Court apartment complex, according to Sgt. Brian Edwards of the Waynesboro Police Department.
“One bedroom was set aside to grow the mushrooms,” he said.
Besides the illegal mushrooms, Edwards said police confiscated thermostats, vents, scales, pots and soil. A small amount of marijuana also was found inside the home. Edwards said it took four police officers about three hours to collect the evidence, filling the back of an entire police SUV.
“It was pretty laborious,” he said.
No firearms were found inside the residence.
Police began investigating Gutierrez after neighbors complained of possible drug activity at the apartment. Edwards said the grow operation did not pose a health risk to others living at the apartment complex.
Gutierrez, also charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession, is being held at Middle River Regional Jail in Verona.
If convicted of the felony drug charge, he faces the possibility of 40 years in prison.

Well to me it seems by drug activity means he probably had alot of traffic in and out of his home. For personal use there should no suspicious activity noticed unless they are peeking in the home thats why marketing of psychedlic mushrooms that you grew should not be sold out of the home they are cultivated in.

It's cases like this that we can all learn from.
It would be great to have a compiled list of cases related to shroom busts. I think it would be very insightful to study the circumstances that led to such busts. I'm sure one would be able to uncover similar patterns.

Very good post man. Really if you take the time to grow then you shouldn't jeopardize everything by selling out of the same place. And, I'm sure that he was having people come in and out all day and playing music and talking loud about droogz, not smart.

This makes me a bit mad, because it's clear to me that many of the people on this site grow mushrooms. I plan to, but I think it's kind of fucked up to think that this guy was just a regular guy like most of us. He wasn't bad or anything like that, he was just growing them. They found no firearms, just a bunch of mushrooms.
I think in this case the laws stupidity can be found just by reading the punishment.
This man is being arrested and possibly jailed for 40 years, because they found him with a clusterfuck of mushrooms.
