Hey Blazer420 - what kind of shroom is that second pick? Is it active? It doesn't look like a sub to me. I ask because I'm trying to learn....

Love your crazy Raro hauls bro Go sit on the sea wall and buuuuuuzzz when the plane gets in :P
re this season; nah, you guys are all mad...hauls have been the same every year...Auckland has always been monster...every year a couple of major patches get destroyed, and every year more seem to pop up...some gypsy worked some real spore magic in the 70's...
CAUTION:
While picking, do be aware if you are being watched. I recommend rain picking or night picking. Park rangers can, and will photograph you, photograph your car, then report it to the police.

I think the late spout of frosts have chucked a spanner in the works from my count out west at least 7 days straight frosty mornings followed by fine days,we need some rain to raise the temp abit and get our beloved little friends flushing again.

Not yet, the rains in Auckland were nice but haven't seen any growth.
I usually go for a hunt when the amanitas on my driveway grow, but nothing so far

Hi,
Well I found abit of a haul, and given that Shroomery has been so useful to me I thought I'd drop some images and open it to the experts to add some comment should they wish.
My intention here is to re-iterate to the newbies whats been stated again and agin on here, that IDENTIFICATION before CONSUMPTION could prevent alot of issues.
Given that this load was in a public place the gathering was somewhat frantic.
Even though I'm a newbie myself I have spent a huge amount of time looking online, and onsite.
As such, during the frantic harvest, I noticed that amoungst the many many of the target species, I saw somthing that I made a mental note to look at again at home.
If you look at the first 2 images, all looks OK, except I'm sure to the trained eye.
Closer inspection shows a rouge in the harem.
Closer again and the characteristics of the odd one out become more evident.
Quite different indeed as is shown in the later images and it could, I believe, have been easily mistaken as there were only 2 of these amoungst hundereds of ps. subs.
I dont know what that other one is, or if its toxic, but I'd suggest that its not a ps. sub, maybe I'm wrong, but it didnt bruise blue on the stem as the others did, even though there appeared to be some blueing, or discolouration on the cap.
Perhaps AR or Inski can ID it?
Anyway over to you all, good luck, be careful, and peace.
As another shromerer once said, "darling, start the fan"
Ha ha haaaaaa - yippee

I believe that may be an aged Psilocybe aucklandii, so active.
Nice find of the P. subaeruginosa though, these last few days of rain have been good

Woohoo, went to an old patch today and found about 100 Psilocybe australiana, pretty old and weathered but by the time they're dried, powdered and capped they'll be just fine!
Also found a bunch of Weraroa novaezelandiae, as soon as my batteries are charged i'll post a pic. I couldn't believe it, I was just working and spotted a wee family, combed the area and found a whole tribe!

Ok Auckalangii, that's interesting. One of the reasons I posted was to get an ID. As I said it did have some blueing on the cap as you might see in the photo but none on the stem.
It looked very tempting but hey, as you can see, I didnt need to take any risks once it was dried and harder to ID so I chucked it.
I expect I'll be sharing the love so dont want someone getting sick on my account.
Also FYI, these were found well North of Auck and all I've seen written about ps. Aucklandii is that they are Auckland only?

Hi yakuspa, It is not a Psilocybe species, if you come across this again be sure to make a spore print, maybe some of the blue staining rubbed off on that specimen, especially if it was in the same bag as the P. subaeruginosa. P. aucklandii is more widespread than Auckland and in my experience can be found as far north as Dargaville, it would not surprise me if it were found further south also! inski.

Hey guys, new to picking but managed to find a few hopeful looking ones amongst a dying/dead tree. Can anyone confirm if these are good to go?

Hi Inski, thanks for the ps.aucklandii info and I think you may be right, that the blueing was rub off.
If there is another next time I'll do as you suggest and take a spore print.
Cheers
