good news for all of us north carolina hunters. I know we dont have many actives here , or they dont get found much. But the psilocybe gods have had great mercy on us my spreading upon our activeless grounds ,a new psilocybe. it is Psilocybe naematoliformis. 5 or 6 days ago i was searching forums and found a post from MeAshrooma with naematoliformis in Piedmont NC(where i am) i studied this and the posts from weiliiii( he was the first to find naematoliformis in the US in georgia)(it is from mexico) and so when the naematoliformis got to georgia, it encountere all the weilis , and they said' "we got this area covered. why dont you head to north carolina, they need some help over there. " But i studied these posts and i was excited and felt like i was going to find them soon. and the next day i went out on a trail i usually go on, and they were the first thing i found. there were hundreds of them, like the other posts, in woodchips with sandy soil. ihave been hunting mushrooms for a while and feel safe with my ability to recognize macroscopic qualities and i know these are the ones in weiliiiis and MeAshroomas posts. many had the yellow/carmel in the middle of the cap with darker outside. many had the spikey nipple. many bruising very dark immediatly . hard to tell if it was blue because it blended in with the brown stem, but later some were clearly blue. no cap larger than a penny. dark brown spore print with a hint of purple. the spores on tops of some caps looked very purple. They were in the fridge a for a couple days then i got a nice camera and took many good pics and was going to post them but i saw you have to be a supporter. i dont have a credit card but if i can mail a check or money order then i might become a supporter and then i can post my pics. But NC hunters and surrounding hunters dont lose hope. study these naematoliformis and go look for old wood chips.

MeAshrooma's collection was determined to not be the same as the Georgia Psilocybe naematoliformis, even though it does look similar. The MeAshrooma collection is most similar to Psilocybe plutonia. You can compare the microscopic features in the links below.

Gumby was the first to find this species (naematoliformis) in GA I believe.

You will definitely want to take prints and save some samples for later microscopic examination since its difficult to identify this species by photos alone. Psilocybe plutonia is not officially known in NC and I don't know if the NC material was ever tested for activity.
Assuming you have the same species, it will be only the second time it has been collected. There is nothing in the literature and only the previous Shroomery post to document it. Without microscopic examination it would have merely been another collection of P. naematoliformis.

I remember you testing them on indole test strips and they came up negative for psilocin/psilocybin, you sent me the info on it, ill see if I can dig it up.

i dont know much about the microscopic technical part of mushrooms and you cant make hybrids right? But it seems interesting that naematoliformis came from mexico brick red and now has a color of many weilis. and then soon after a very simular mushroom is in north carolina

hmm not sure they are the same, to dry to really know only a microscopic examination can decide.
