I agree about the mushroom gods smiling this year ,
1)I sucsessfully transplanted mycelium to my parents back yard last year and they are now producing.
2)Moved up north for a new challenge to start a buisness in hort, and right out side our new prop shed and all round the house there are bountifull sub patches.
Its been one of those years where everything makes sense .
Peace.

dam i think 1 lil baby golden cap has dried up 2 much in the sun (at my local spot).. do you guys think if i just went and watered around the dry area's they may start 2 pop back up??.. theres a medium sized 1 in a sheltered area but i dunno if it will rain any time soon.. is this shroom in danger because of dry weather?? or will it still grow naturally?

Yeah water the patch HARD. Make sure its completely saturated. Preferably do it at night for obvious reasons, and so that the water won't evap. as quick as if you were to in the day time.
Personally i'd take a sample of mycelium and make your own bed. Start with a sample about the size of a 50c coin and put that in a take away container of fresh hard wood wood chips [preferably not pine] and tuck that away somewhere cool and dark like under a sink in the laundry.
then when it's established a bit more, make a bigger bed for it.

its weird because the golden caps are surrounded by fallen pine needles.. its like right by some stairs in the forest haha.. anyways ill try get that bed thing done it sounds like a great idea for some more patches ..

Yeah, more so for you're own personal bed I made one up from a pallet. Easy as.
Also this is worth a read, the cardboard tek:

Also a very good read for your own bed:

Good luck man, well it's not hard really :P

So I went back to the spot where I found fifty subs to find that the place had been raped. It was out in the open though...But anyway, looking around I found a few logs and such with mycelium all over them! I'm thinking of making a bed but I'm not too sure on everything about them. Help? haha

Hey guys,
I just found my first active mushrooms, EVER !! This in my 3rd year looking, i'm so happy. Finally!
I headed out into some native forest, just off a public walkway. Looked for about 2 hours total, when i came across these. The only thing is I only found two small ones - by then it was getting to dark to see. (and maybe other people had already picked em')
Tomorrow morning i'll head out again in the same spot and see what i can find.
I just eat these mushrooms about 20 mins ago, 99.9 % sure they are active. Wonder if i'll feel any effects.

Peace.
[edit] forgot to mention, where i found these mushrooms, there were all these little purple tiny bits scattered around the place - like just a bit smaller than your average sized seed. I wonder if these could possibly be the spores?
[edit again] Just went for another hunt today around the same spot, for about 4 hours. pretty gutted didn't find a single one.

Nice find! They are Weraroa novaezelandiae. And yes, they are active. Two small ones probably won't do much, probably give you a body buzz.

Yeah you'd need to take about 4 - 5 times that amount to get your trip on. I find a few of those occasionally, they take ages to grow back and don't grow in patches. You'll only ever find 2 or 3 in a cubic meter and most likely no more in that immediate area. They are a bitch to hunt for.
I've frozen them and they do keep - I tried mine 4 weeks after freezing them and the effect was noticably less but still 80% of the original batch I tried.

If you really want to find them, I've found absolutely combing a 50 - 100m radius in the area you found them in every possible direction, and I believe you will be pleasantly surprised - just be prepared to spend 2 - 3 hours doing it. They don't seem to grow in patterns but by intensive searching in the right area you should find a good bunch!
Happy shrooming
