Panaeolus subbalteatus does indeed grow on cowdung in Australia as THIS thread shows.
Although generally found in the warmer months of the year a few Pan subbs were found by myself a few days ago (I was much suprised by this seemingly out of season find) growing from sodden grass clippings used as a mulch.

Yeah true that. I'll probably check it out around Sunday. I'm pretty sure its supposed to be raining all weekend.
Went for a look around today in a pine forest and found a wicked looking mushroom
. Found a couple different species today. Nothing active but its a good sign!

That mushroom you found looks really cool. Good signs
Had some rain out near my place. There are a couple of pine plantations around so I might check them out this weekend. I'm thinking the only thing that will be active around me are gyms.

Yeah you should definatly check out those plantations. Never know you could stumble across some subs? I've heard most gyms are weak and bitter like fuck. You found any active gyms before?

These plantations are not really that old so it's a bitch walking through them. you gotta bash through all the branches and some dude lives there so you gotta dodge him too.

I'm definatly going back to the pine forest this weekend sometime. I found a fair few different inactives. I'm waiting for a few more days rain.

On the subject of gyms, G.purpuratus would be one of the more highly sought after gym species. Its also one of the very few active shrooms in WA. In spite of this I've yet to hear of any bioassay reports of WA purpuratus material or even seen good high res pics of WA purpuratus.
In addition there are indications that there may be several unidentified gym species closely related to G.purpuratus in WA.
You'd still want starting dosage of approx 10g dry.

Im new to Hunting too. If your just starting like me id say go and get yourself a Half decent camera and some Fungi books or something along those lines.
Dont think were actually allowed to recomend spesific areas to looks for mushrooms. Are you Rural or Urban? Check out the grass at a few of the local parks in your area. Ive found like 3-4 different species at my local park. Allthough i live in a semi rural area.
Other than that, just keep your eyes open and dont give up if you dont find anything straight away.
