Habitat: decaying wood buried in soil. Near wood chip and old lumber piles.
Gills: cinnamon/rusty brown?
Stem: some were off white others cinnamon/rusty brown?
Cap: 1/4" - 1 1/8" some were wavy
Spore print color: Very important!
Bruising: if anything more blackish. I could be color blind.
Other information: has an unusual scent, really not pleasant. This could of been the soil they were growing in. Many grew in a cluster and few were singles.
Pics of Psilocybe caerulescens found on web.

What I found...I know fat chance, but worth asking.

Don't know what they are but they're not Psilocybe caerulescens.

Those are some cool pics. The spores used were from this gully in Colima. I like how the ornamentation on the stipe is the same in the cultivated specimens. I am not completely convinced that it is P. caerulescens because I found pleurocystidia on the gills.
Your mushrooms are nothing like those. They could be in the genus Gymnopus.
Next time check the spore print color!

These were one of my first finds about 7:00am, by time I returned around 3:00pm I think they dried out to much for a spore print. I tried on both white and black paper.
They did seem to bruise, did you notice the color of the stipe before I picked them?

Try tinfoil next time.

They look more like deadly Galerina than any active Psilocybe, however the whitish gills at maturity indicate that it probably has a white spore print. Check the available literature for any Gymnopus species that have been recorded from your area.

I found pics of Gymnopilus spectabilis, this does grow in my area. There does seem to be a similarity, but still not sure.

Gymnopus is not related to Gymnopilus.
