The Mango Experiment....Gets you higher?
    #10405554 - 05/27/09 02:34 AM (5 years, 5 months ago)

I didn't bother doing a search but i'm sure this has been discussed here before, or some of you may have heard of this....For those of you who haven't....

Supposedly eating a Mango prior to toking will increase the effects of weed....

The theory behind this?...Simply put, mango contains high amounts of the terpene Myrcene. This is the most prevalent terpene that is also found in cannabis. Well, Myrcene so happens to help THC pass the blood-brain barrier quicker & more efficiently. So eating Mango an hour or so before you plan on smoking will increase the high....

So i ate a mango about 45 minutes ago....I just realized tonight that i have never had raw mango, it's just always been mixed in with certain dishes or other fruits. I also have never tried cutting a mango, so i kinda mangled it a bit and lost some of the goods....The taste wasn't exactly what i was expecting, a little odd at first but i liked it. I ended up squeezing some lime juice on the mango and the enhanced the flavor quite a bit....

Well, i'm going to toke up in a bit here and let you all know what i thought of it....

Update: I've done this several times now and it does indeed work :yesnod: :awesome:

Never heard of that. But I'd like to see some results. Now I can put all those mangos to good use.

This is the only other thing I have seen like that

Pharmacology
Cannabinoids can be administered by smoking, vaporizing, oral ingestion, transdermal patch, intravenous injection, sublingual absorption, or rectal suppository. Once in the body, most cannabinoids are metabolized in the liver, especially by cytochrome P450 mixed-function oxidases, mainly CYP 2C9. Thus supplementing with CYP 2C9 inhibitors leads to extended intoxication.
Some is also stored in fat in addition to being metabolized in liver. Δ9-THC is metabolized to 11-hydroxy-Δ9-THC, which is then metabolized to 9-carboxy-THC. Some cannabis metabolites can be detected in the body after several weeks.

Well....I must admit, i am pretty damn lifted haha :smirk:.

I took two single packed bong hits to start with, to kinda judge how effective the mango was. Right after the second hit i could feel the high come come into my head pretty quickly, that warm fuzzy feeling around the head some strains give. I have had this bud for the past couple days so I am familiar with it and know it's Sativa dominant, but have never felt the head come on so quickly. I would have to say i definitely notice an increase of the effects, considering the small amount i smoked (less than .1g).

I did have some food in my stomach when i ate the mango, so i do want to try this method again some time on an empty stomach. You guys should try it, i want to see what other result come up.

I took 3 hits, then started to type this with a 4th hit already packed for when i was done. Well, i have become a bit higher than i thought i would have as i was typing, so i'm just going to save that hit for later.....

I've read that mangoes can contribute to a greater high in Cannabis Culture magazine.  I'm not sure how well supported the claim is in peer-reviewed science, but I'm indifferent, even if it were true.  Cannabis still gets me plenty high, and I detest mangoes.

A mango on an empty stomach seemed to work.
I could feel the effects before I even cleared the bong  :bonghit2:

One time I ate a mango without peeling it.

See, unbeknownst to me at the time, mangoes are in the poison ivy family. Likewise, the skin of a mango contains non-trivial levels of the chemical urushiol, that causes the rashes associated with poison ivy.

Now, try to imagine the worst poison ivy you've ever seen/had... on you lips.  They swelled to about 3 times normal size, and blistered, burned, and oozed like nothing else. I looked hell of stupid.  At this point (about 24 hours after eating the mango), I still had no idea what caused this, and frankly I was terrified. Luckily, my dermatologist is amazing, and was able to deduce what happened, despite never having seen a case of this (apparently "flaming mango lips" is somewhat common and well-documented in places where mangoes are more readily available, i.e. places that aren't Kentucky).  I got some Dexamethasone (steroid) and was sent home.

The moral of this story, Don't eat mangoes with the peel on.

Yeah, i noticed the head came on very quickly. As i was holding the hit i could feel the herb take effect.

The high also lasted a considerable amount of time longer. With my current tolerance, after a smoke session i am usually down within 60 minutes or so, still feeling light effects but not what i would call "high/stoned". With the mango, 90-105 minutes later and i was still relatively high.

The theory is that Myrcene helps THC and other cannabinoids pass the blood-brain barrier quicker. So this does sound reasonable to me....Still want to see what others think, i am going to try and get most of my friends try this as well.

Well, I'm about to give it a shot then.  Everywhere I've looked for information there have been a few people saying they've had positive results.

What the heck.

Good high (smoked club Green Crack)... but not sure if the mango really added to it.  Like other people have said, I felt the head high come on very quickly.

I heard it works better with over-ripe mangos. The mangos i see in the grocery store are almost never ripe enough for my liking. That mango in the pic i would consider unedibly under-ripe, you would probably consider what I eat as rotten. I like mangos that are extremely soft and completely red with dark orange fibrous flesh. This means sweeter fruit with higher levels of myrcene. I heard the theory works but never tried it, but I found an over-ripe mango and in 20 min. ill find out.
