My cousin was out by his house today and found a few things that were growing in a mulched area by his house with some rotting plant leaves/material under some brush - he got excited and sent me some pix's..

If someone could help me out here..

They were not found in a field, just like a mulched plant area by his house//

Thanks-!

There are a few more if needed for ID'ing.. just such a bi-atch to upload..

Thanks again

I'm not certain what those are hzang
They don't appear to be active and I wouldn't eat them
In Florida you'd have far more of a chance in a cow pasture versus mulch

hello all im in north fl, our season just picked up in the past 3 weeks, no one around in my county has been able to find anything, except for me. last night was a full moon and something told me to go hunt and find a new field, i did so but this field is kind cool cause the only way to get in you have to cross, "what has now become due to the heavy rain lately" a 50 foot across creek, its just deep enough for the cows to cross but not a vehicle, it was about waist high on myself. but anyways, im glad i made this decicision, because my findings were unreal i found several awsome patches each one containing 100+ in a small area, and i was fortunate enough to find both copes and cubes. i really think that full moon nights during season are the best times to hunt, last years season the same thing happened in august on a full moon, but at a different field"which is not active now for some strange reason cause the cow population double than last year"

what i really want to say is, if you are in north fl, if want to find them, go look tonight and tomorrow, cause they are out there right this second, im going back to my "magic field" tonight, i will try to post pics of what i know will be a superb payoff

YES!after searching and searching, finally i have some luck. I found three types on horse shit and from the ground next to the cow fields. here is the deal, this is only the second time ive done this, first time in central Fl...

directly growing only on the Horse shit fungi- literally hundreds of tiny, sky blue caps with skinny stems...very,very young. seems like they had darker gills, and they turned black now. kinda scary looking. tried to find some mature enough to take a print.

in the same area (which was a small fenced in area for horses but the cows were kept right beside them across a fence) but Not growing on the poop i found, what i believe to be pan cyans!!!!!! yes, excited. but it is my understanding that perhaps alot of fungi look like this- nipples. fleshy caps with a brown hat, purple gills, skinny stems. bruises blue. tottally working on the SP now. but again, i dont think these were old enough. sad. but there were many i didnt touch. they were mainly growing under the shade of a tree. i assume we there should be waaay more where the cows are.

unfortunately i have no pictures for todays adventure.

i need help with these blue ones, they are freaking me out. dude, there were TONS of them. the 'pan cyans' i found were scattered and few and far between.

please help with what little info i have now. THANKS YALL!

If they were growing on horse dung and bruise blue and have skinny stems - they could be pan cyans.  Do they look like these?

more pan cyans

Without a picture and better description, it is impossible to say for sure though.

Fill out an ID request and make a post if you have enough information such as:

Habitat:

Where does it grow? Eg. woods, pasture, state, province, country, altitude, etc. What does it grow on? Eg. soil, dung, wood (dead, living, what kind of wood?), etc.

Gills:
Color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc.

Stem:

Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc.

Cap:
Diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc.

Spore print color
:
Very important!

Bruising:

Color that the mushroom bruises, if any.

Other information:
Scent of the mushroom, anything else you think is important, large close-up pictures showing stem, cap and gills.

okay, i will try to post better IDing information later this week. all of them were so small, not nearly mature enough for a SP. but im trying anyways. but, YES, they look like tiny versions of the photos you just posted. those particualr ones were not growing on shit, just around the area and under the shade of a tree... these i was specifically searching for. but also stumbled across the light blue ones. they were not bruised. they were just wierd looking baby blue mushrooms. skinny and light wieght, tons growing on each horse patty. crazy shit. they turned black now. working on a SP for these too. but like i said, immature. very exciting! i love it!

Read up on panaeolus and look at the different species within the genus.

Panaeolus antillarum

Panaeolus papilionaceus var. papilionaceus

Panaeolus olivaceus

thank you for your help, im sure i will need more. i cant tell you how happy i am!

here are some more questions:
how long does the ccyle of growth normally take? reason why i ask is that i saw so many teeny tiny ones and i want to know when i should go back. if it gets too hot does it wipe them all out? are there other fungi that look almost identical to pan cyans? if so, any ones that are just bad for you? we normally start our hunt at 420am and end it before 10am, are these good times? is it best at sunrise? or before? or after? i know florida has them almost year round, but is autumn the BEST time? maybe i should wait another month before they are really poppin out...

funny, i google about the blue mushrooms and really, im not finding any answers or photos that look anything like what i found.

thanks again!

They grow fast!  I've seen them go from pin sized to prime size in 12 - 36 hours.  Heat can dry them out and ultimately they will die anyhow.  The mycelium can live in adverse condtions. If a shroom is growing on shit and it has a black or purple spore print it will not be poisonous and may be active.
Panaleous Antillarium are a common dung loving shroom that many find.  They are not active, nor poisonous but not the ones you probably WANT to find, they are common though.
4:20am - 10am sound like a great time of day:thumbup:
I like spring and early summer also fall is a good time.
It depends on humidity levels, rain, dewpoint and a number of factors.
Happy hunting:mushroom2:

If the blue mushrooms were that small yet they were already blue they are def not active.  Most actives aren't blue unless bruised, they do get purple colored from spores if a larger shroom dropped them on top or something. What you found may have been coprinus pins.  Good luck hunting, check out a cowfield at that time instead of a horse field, you might have better luck.
