If they are staining blue they are Panaeolus cyanescens, however yours look more like the inactive Panaeolus antillarum to me.

Yes, for Panaeolus cyanescens.

Question: Atleast about two or three of the specimens in the collection above appear to be different from the rest of the collection but I am uncertain. Can someone clarify the species above.

there are couple types of active blueing Panaeolus mushrooms that grow in south Florida. and they need to be looked at under a microscope to properly identify them.
here's a few types of Copes: Cyanescens, Tropicalis, Cambodgeniensis, Chlorocystis, Bisporus.

So would it be accurate to say that there are about five species that look identical to one another macroscopically but are clearly different under a microscope Also the genus copelandia no longer applies and to call some of these copes is more of a term of endearment?

yeah, I don't normally use the term Copelandia, it confuses things.
but basically the term Copelandia simply means active blueing Panaeolus

Hey, well i'm new to this site. I live in Ocala, which is central florida, I've always had a sort of fascination with mushrooms, but i've never really known much about them. Me and my friends were just at some nature park and i would just look around for different types of mushrooms, i was wondering if anyone could identify what these might be?
This mushroom was found right next to a stump, it is exceptionally large, around 7-8 inches, it is very hard, and the stem is almost rootlike..i'm sort of convinced it is a root, the top is bright yellow with a white edge around it, and the stem is hard and purple and stick-like.

This mushroom was found in a wet woodland area, take note, it has been raining and over 95 degrees in the same day for the past 2 weeks. This one is bright yellow with a white stem, its around 4 inches in height.

This one used to have a yellow top, (im not sure what to call the top of the mushroom). but it has faded to white somehow since yesterday. It was found in the same area as the ones above. It has a very flat and wide top and a relatively short stem, its around 3-4 inches long as well.

This one is also found in the wooded area, it is very short and doesnt have those strange spore things underneath its head.

Last but not last, i found this one pretty strange. It was found in a pair of 3, one of them was larger than a potato, they are purple and slimy and hard.

Well, thats it for now.
If anyone can tell me anything about these mushrooms that would be amazing!
thanks =]
**edit The pictures are not working so to view them just go here, http://s688.photobucket.com/albums/vv246/mushrooms2009/
all the mushrooms are in that account, thanks !

Went to our field on sun, found about 15 cubes, and about 30 meanies! Also brought a patty home that we picked cubes off of, and today I noticed some pinning on it...in my backyard! I'm spreading Black Kow pasteurized manure in all the shady humid spots. Hopefully i wont be walking very far to pick here soon!

Yea we've been out looking and we've found a few far and wide, but nothing to get excited about in the past week or so. Hopefully this rain will send them shooting up. We'll see though.
