Ok. You still need to go over the regulations for this forum.

only the third and sixth photo are active mushrooms.

the first photo is an inactive Panaeolus, probably Pan Papilionaceus.

I'm curious as to the first photo's species. Anyone with a guess??

First looks like panaeolus antillarum, second is poisonous -- stay away, third looks like a few panaelous cyanescens, 4th and 5th both I don't know, last is good ol' cubensis

352_hippieflip and I went out again this morning, finding roughly about the same amount of cubes we found each of the last two times. also been finding a few pan cyans here and there. no pictures this time though, since I'm sick and needed to get some sleep...

We finally received a lot of rain up here in the NW Florida area. Still raining as I type this actually. All I can say is, it's about freaking time. I hope to pull in some harvest like I've seen you central and south FL guys have been grabbing. It's been so dry up this way for a few weeks.

1) Panaeolus papilionaceus var. parvisporus
2) Chlorophyllum molybdites
3) Panaeolus cyanescens
4) Need a pic of the underside, could be Lepista nuda
5) Cystolepiota
6) Psilocybe cubensis

Alright. I'm confused and have to ask how the conclusion was developed stating that the first photo is Panaeolus papilionaceus. For instance, I don't see the saw-tooth edging that other photos reveal.

not all papilionaceus display that trait. I dont know enough about dung loving inactives to come to a  conclusion about the species, but i'd guess alan came to that conclusion through a process of elimination

the Papilionaceus is very common, and I'v seen it many, many times.  It is noticeably different from Pan Antillarum, mainly because the colorations.

I normally look for a reddish/brownish color of the stipe, where handled.  Before being handled the stipes are a buff white color.  The frilly edges on the caps are not always present.

Panaeolus papilionaceus var. parvisporus lacks the veil remnants around the cap margin.

Here comes a potentially ignorant question on my behalf: Alright...So if we have a species which is macroscopically different enough that we'd scientifically add var. xxx why would we not treat it as we would a species that was microscopically different and create a new species listing? I think it is a dis-service not to go this route scientifically, assuming it's even possible, in order for normal people to effectively read a book or a post and quickly find out what species they have.

I really wonder why sometimes fields don't always produce, but one year out of 5 they can sprout out of no where. Everyone always seems to have a different answer, but it's a good question.

some fields just don't produce.  and farmers are not feeding cows anti-mushroom food.

Kinda both. A reference to your question, but also one on its own b/c it doesn't have anything to do with feed. But I assume that feed has to have SOMETHING to do with fields never producing at all, because in the city limits where I live, all cow fields don't produce unless you find an old/poor farmer who doesn't buy his feed or an old field that has had cows there for years. Regardless of what anyone on here says. Grain fed cows seem to be where it's at, but it still doesn't answer why in some fields that only show 1 year out of every x years.
