What got you interested in mushroom hunting?

So what got you guys into the hobby?
The thought of it sounds like a very fun and worthwhile experience, but never knew really where to get started. (college coarse, shroom hunting friend, cultivating first)?
What did it take for you to get started?
(Sorry if this is the wrong place to post, didn't know where else to)

Cultivating them first got me started and then I wanted to find some other mushrooms besides cubensis.

why do you ask, out of curiosity? is this a sociological question, like asking a chef what got them interested in cooking?

I've always liked hiking and hunting.
I love fishing and hunting and TRIPPIN...so mushroom hunting is no different. Get yourself a few "target species" and see how good you can get at finding those species all-the-while learning about their habitat and life-cycle.
Oh yeah all that and free, natural, organic dope!!!

A friend's older sister used to tell us about her night-time shrooming hunts and how herself and her friends would trip through night until morning. I suppose hearing that got me interested but if it wasn't for the mother of shroom knowledge, the shroomery, that interest wouldn't have got the nurturing that this forum provided.

I ask because i am about to start cultivating my own soon, and have been interested in trying the whole outdoor adventure of searching for them, but don't really know where to get started besides looking on the shroomery.

How hard would it be to find shrooms at night. Damn.

i apologize, i didn't mean to sound cheeky before. i am certain that i am not alone here in saying that the process of learning about, beginning the search, finally finding something that is nothing short of a blessed gift, then actually partaking of it, is an experience that few pursue but the ones that do find something that is immeasurable and deeply personal. my suggestion is know what you are looking for in your area, watch the weather closely, find multiple different possible habitats for your search, prepare yourself to finding nothing, prepare yourself to find magic

I haven't been able to get into hunting for them yet, have been waiting for the season to start here, but I want to get into it because of cultivation. I've been cultivating for a while and I want to see them growing naturally. Also, there's a sense of accomplishment you get the first time you cultivate, and I have the feeling that finding them successfully will be the same. Now I just need to find someone to show me the ropes.

There were all these WEIRD looking mushrooms at this college I was going to. When I found them I had no idea that mushrooms came in so many different shapes and colours. The first one I found a couple yards from the computer lab I had just left. After kicking it over and being totally amazed by it's strangeness, I turned around and went back to the computer and searched for pages on identifying mushrooms.
This coincided with one of my friends mushroom cultivations, and he told me about Shroomery.

I love to read the varying dialects from across seas. It gives you an interesting cultural perspective.
It is also fun to incorporate foreign lingo into your vocabulary IRL. I highly recommend it, the reactions are equally insightful.
