Before, during, and after. Depending on the weather in a given area where they reside.

The Ovoids are here now! WHOO HOO.. I went out yesterday in the middle of a thunderstorm and was thrilled to see em and lots of em! I picked the big ones, one was almost 3inches wide (cap)! biggest one I ever saw. We have been flooded and wet for weeks and I was worried that my patch would be washed out,but in fact it wasnt and all the work I did last yr to make the patch bigger worked! Its gonna be a good yr Goodluck to everybody! Ill get pics when its not raining. I also had to run into new obstacles like giant trees fallen from the floods in my path, but the way I see it it hides my spot better! Happy hunting!

I slipped in a river, while covered in ticks, swam to the shore and fell into a mushroom patch that took me to an oblivian full of rainbows and super novas with purple stars.

Are Ovoid spore prints brown or purple? I haven't been able to find a direct answer on the available info pages
There's been a whole lot of wood growers coming up that look kinda like the Ovoids pictured, but they have light brown spores and gills (attached/notched) and I haven't noticed any bruising. The caps consistently start moist and brown and fade to off-white with orangey or brown centers, though...I'll put up an ID thread once I get the pics off the camera.

I'm in southwest Ohio and I don't think I've ever seen them. I even went out the other day down along a riverbank and the woods that are along the edge and nada. Are those mostly in eastern Ohio and West Virginia? Are they around specific trees? Most of the trees I saw were either black maple or silver down there along with some other types.
