you think this is true for the whole of humanity?

man what an assumption!

your definition of arrogance also seems to stem from your own personal opinions and belief system more so than that of what the word actually means.  this makes your logic a bit skewed.

i think what true about me it's true about others and what true about others it's true about me, we all humans you know.
it's like if i shit a brown shit i don't have to look others shit you know, becouse their shit also brown, and if someone have a green shit, so i can do it too you know.
but what is true, how you define what true?
if your government lie to you and you believe it, it become to be true,
but if someone tell you some truth and you don't believe it, then it is lie.
lies are true and truth lie!

of course it's my opinion and what you said it's not your opinion.
so what is your point?

yes it's my opinion but the difference between mine and yours is that you are basing your opinions more so around definitions you create in your head.

you stated this -

according to the definition of arrogance, this thread isn't very arrogant.  we're just giving our life stories.  sure some may be arrogant about it but it doesn't make everyone else here arrogant nor the thread arrogant.

i just disagree with your general view on all of this.  there is some truth in it, but it's mostly biased IMO.

shit, i am arrogant, i can admit that.  but to call this whole thread very arrogant is biased.

you disagree and there is some truth? you disagree with the truth...?

of course it's biased.. i mean look at the title of this thread
Who Are You?[/b] first think that came up in the head is... hey.. whata fuck... there is people who want to cut my body and investigate my organs? whata fuck.....

a patient come to a doctor and said.. doctor doctor my ass is hurt,
doctor looks and said... well i know what is the problem, you have a huge carrot sticking in your ass. patient said... can you help me? doctor said yes of course i can help you i'm a doctor i always help people. doctor pull out the carrot from his ass and the patient go home free and happy.
then he think about the all thing and say... white arrogant fucking shit, he think if he can role his ayes at the places where the sun don't shine and my face won't smile it makes him better then me? then he thought about it again and said... yes

everyone's opinions stem from their own self-interests, some just more so than others.  just as we could all be considered selfish, some are more so than others.  but that's just my opinion.

Re: Who Are You? [Re: Veritas]

1.  What was your upbringing?  Did your family have money?  Were they religious?  Did they discuss philosophy and/or spirituality with you?

Fairly well, parents stayed together until 14, which was a healthy age for them to divorce. Started smoking dope with them shortly thereafter & we all get along good. My mom is a Catholic & would always teach me about God & appreciation for life, my dad was more neutral/agnostic and didn't talk much about it.

2.  How was your educational experience?  Did you enjoy school?  Were you academically-oriented, or disinterested?  How much of your education has found application in your daily life?

I got by, there was nothing I really ever had trouble with, but I never bothered to be at the top of the class either. I had a bad attitude about doing any work out of class, so I'd just do whatever I could while in school and never hand in any homework, always just passing. I graduated highschool and took a welding course at my local college, and I get good marks in the trade school I attend for my current apprenticeship, but after I'm done with this I'd like to upgrade my science credits to try to start looking at studying neurology at a university.
3.  What career interests you?  Are you working in this career now?  Do you feel satisfied in your work, or is it mainly a paycheck job?  What work would you do if you did not have to earn money?

I'm interested in a career in either neurology, or to write music for a living. I'm a boilermaker apprentice now, almost a journeyman. It's awesome money and I plan to do it off/on for the rest of my life, but not all the time.

4.  Has your philosophy/spirituality changed much over the years?  Have you had epiphanies or rude awakenings which led you to reconsider your beliefs/values?  At what age did you first become interested in philosophy/spirituality?

I had always believed in God, or at least been agnostic most of my life. Stuff like black metal & shit got me interested in more pagan religions, then I had this life changing mushroom trip that intensified that, and I was in la-la land for a few years with my head in the clouds, then I started becoming interested in biology, astronomy, & physics and saw how ridiculous I was. I'm... I'm an agnostic now I guess.

5.  What are your core values?  How are these values expressed in your daily life?  Do you feel that your values are similar or dissimilar to those of the majority?

Pretty lame, but here it is: Be nice.

interesting to see the people that visit here, new here, but a bit 'bout myself...

raised in a fairly upperclass family and community by two accountants who tried to keep us (the kids) from excess and arrogance.  Kinda a typical Christian family, church on Sundays and such.  Didn't due much in school 'till the end of highschool, had fun runnin' wild 'till then, couple of arrest, never anything that major tho.  Near the end put forth some effort, got into a nice school and studying neural engineering.  Degree's nice 'cause outside the science I read nearly any philosophy or fiction I please, work as a tutor during school.  Got interested in philosophy/spirituality when I was 'bout 16 (after reading "Brave New World" got into some of Huxley's other work like "Island" and cascaded from there).  Don't really have a religion now, sort of happily agnostic, core believe would be that perception determines reality and freedom to do as one pleases as the mood strikes, an embrace of living and the emotions that go with it (see below).

I think of myself as basically one of them who attempt to perceive patterns. I'm wondering if the mapping of the human genome is serendipitous with 2012, in that Japanese mothers could get the traits they want in their children.

1.  What was your upbringing?  Did your family have money?  Were they religious?  Did they discuss philosophy and/or spirituality with you?
We were lower middle-class. I was never injured by poverty, neither was I spoiled by wealth. My dad is eclectic and rational, my mother imposed a Christian background on me, which I have since rejected. My spiritual/philosophical beliefs are a result of my own research and experience.

2.  How was your educational experience?  Did you enjoy school?  Were you academically-oriented, or disinterested?  How much of your education has found application in your daily life?
I have always been at the top of my class. I prefer History and English over hard sciences and math. I apply my education in personal creative writing. I just recently graduated high school and will pursue a psychology degree at UC Santa Cruz in the fall.

3.  What career interests you?  Are you working in this career now?  Do you feel satisfied in your work, or is it mainly a paycheck job?  What work would you do if you did not have to earn money?
I have been more or less a full time student my entire life, save for a summer job as a coffee vendor. I want to become a psychotherapist/researcher and do pro-bono counseling in troubled areas.

4.  Has your philosophy/spirituality changed much over the years?  Have you had epiphanies or rude awakenings which led you to reconsider your beliefs/values?  At what age did you first become interested in philosophy/spirituality?
Immensely. The film Waking Life sparked my initial interest in such matters, and I have pursued philosophy ever since. I have a propensity for eastern religious thought. Many times I have questioned and altered my views (experimenting with all religions as well as atheism and nihilism), but more or less always returned to eastern thought. Psychedelic experiences have, overall, strengthened my devotion to a blend of altruistic humanism and personal mysticism. Many times I have questioned and altered my views.

5.  What are your core values?  How are these values expressed in your daily life?  Do you feel that your values are similar or dissimilar to those of the majority?
I greatly value personal freedom and responsibility, which are contingent upon open-minded/civil discussion and free, uncensored dissemination of information. I despise governments for striving against these values by their mere existence. Compassion/kindness, generosity/charity, honesty and creativity are also extremely dear to me.

I manifest these values by picking up garbage where I can, making my personal writings available to any and all for discussion and criticism, doing favors for friends and trying to make people laugh.
