THIS I agree with you on one hundred percent. She was just a pretty face that andy warhol forced on the band, the reason they named the album "the velvet underground & nico" was because they refused to accept her as a band member. She ruins the songs that she sings on, which is why I always listen to the demo version of All Tomorrow's Parties where lou sings.
THat is true. she is pretty annoying. they should've used Kim Deal

Akron/Family- Akron/Family Their debut release on Young God Records. Quieter songs than Love Is Simple, but beautiful nevertheless. A psychedelic folk odyssey with beautiful melodies and wilco style layering of effects.

What a garage in Orange County sounds like. Surf, Gypsy, Folk, and rock n' roll mishmashed together with overdriven bass, heavy drumming, crunchy guitar and flailing vocals.

The Growlers- Couples III, IV, V "Take 5 southern california guys, mix in some surf, stone, and psychadelic, throw them in a haunted mansion in west hochiminster and with a little luck, you might get a band like The Growlers."
Awesome local socal band. hip shaking, wave riding, martini drinking, poolside lounging music, with a dark psychedelic twist. Give it a try.

The Black Lips!- 200 Million Thousand
new Black Lips! album. Don't listen to the hearsay about its lameness. They're growing up as a band and cover so much ground on this album. Blast this shit while driving.

Ra Ra Riot - The Rhumb Line

If you liked that Shaky Hands CD then chances are you'll enjoy this, another wonderful indie pop rock record. It's more mellow, and not summery at all but an incredible album nonetheless. Been playing the shit out of this for a while.

I can't get into Ra Ra Riot. Seen them a bunch of times, they toured with my roommates' band for a bit , and they are just so goddamn dull in concert. have you seen them? I'm wondering if it's just me.

Never seen them, but I can definitely see them sounding dull on stage. I'm seeing them at Sasquatch this year though, they have a few slow bands in the lineup, like Beach House, so it should be interesting.

Beach House is awesome. I wish Sasquatch was in, say, Columbus instead of the PNW soooooooooo far away.

Wavves - Wavves [2008]

Lofi dissonant surf pop/rock with great hummable hooks. think No Age, but with a san diego surf/skate vibe to it.

Pokey LaFarge - Beat Move and Shake. His latest release, with happier tones than the first album. Blend of traditional, folk, and delta blues.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PHAMA6YY
Pokey LaFarge - Marmalade. The first release from Pokey. Somewhat melancholy, somewhat sunny-day music. Beautiful set of original traditional/folky-blues music.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=UUJ8E1AN
Bawn in the Mash - Confluence. 2008 release from an always changing and evolving band. Bluegrass meets rock and roll and fuses with jazz influences. Be sure to let the last track play as there's an awesome jam at about 10:10.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=E0C3PNCH
Chris Volpe - his first and second albums included in the .rar. Dylanesque folk/rock/country singer songwriter. first cd is incredible, solely acoustic with lots of piercing harmonica and excellent wordplay/imagery. His second album is more bluesy and country/folk rock
