blue oyster bucket

Here are some pics of some pins from a blue oyster bucket. Its a 2 gallon bucket stuffed with pasteurized straw and spawned with 1 quart of WBS. The holes are 5/8". I had it colonizing on a table in my room and yesterday realized that there were huge knots of pins coming out of the holes. It isn't in any kind of FC, although today I setup my ultrasonic so the RH is now 55% (up from 33%) and I've been misting them. Should I put this in a greenhouse or just let it go and see what happens? I am kinda weary of my outdoor greenhouse at the moment because of the whole fungus gnat fiasco I just went through so I would rather just keep it in my room.

You will want to place it in greenhouse with at least 60% rh and plenty of misting or they will eventually dry out.

Here are the same pins (and more!) two days after those initial photos. All I've done is mist. The bucket has just been sitting in my room which is at about 40% RH.

Don't let those get too mature or you will end up with a house full of spores. Maybe put a piece of black plastic under the bucket and as soon as you start to see spores accumulate, harvest. Nice looking clusters. I was worried that the pins had already dried to the point they would abort. Obviously not. I knocked up 11-5s this morning and hope to get 30+ more done before the weekend is up.

They will do ok right now at 40%RH and lots of misting because the clusters are still tight together. Once they get mature and spread out though they will dry out while you are asleep at that RH unless you get up in the middle of the night to mist them.

I haven't been misting that much... probably about 2x per day. I haven't been at home that much recently so I do it whenever I get a chance. I think I'll probably harvest the largest cluster tomorrow and wait another day or so for the others... I really don't want a spore dump in my room. The sporeworks blue oyster strain is amazing... I inoculated that bucket on March 23rd, so its been almost exactly 2 weeks.

They go a bit longer without dumping spores. When the cap edges turn upward thats when you know they are getting ready to dump.

I always try to pick before the caps begin to turn up. It not only nips the spore issue in the bud but also extends the shelf life of the clusters. It seems like at a certain point the mushrooms will appear to get bigger but not increase in weight very much.

Whoa, very impressive. I hope mine turn out that well.

There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

How much weight did you harvest off of that bucket and what did you do with them?

Also, where did you get those 2 gallon buckets?
I went to lowes today and got a bunch of stuff. A kick ass timer for a new ultrasonic that I bought and some black rubbermaids to use for incubators.
Anyway, I found some 2 gallon buckets just like that, they are PERFECT! I could stack a bunch of them inside my greenhouse. The shitter of the whole scenario is they dont have lids for them AT ALL. They have a million other sizes of buckets, all to small or too big, and they have lids for all of them ... but not the 2 gallons which are perfect...lol.
Go figure
