First off, this isn't a "Roots of indie music album" thread. Second off, I'd rather not listen to that bullshit.

i love the velvet underground. but this thread isn't about preaching what other should be listening to. it's about UPLOADING what others should be listening to, so you can share it with everyone interested.
you found some pictures on google, good for you. now upload the corresponding albums and place the links under the pictures, and then we're talking.

Wasn't trying to be a dick, just acknowledging their relevance to indie and alternative music as a whole.
You don't like the velvets?

Absolutely not. I find almost all of it to be insufferable noise. The few good songs are not worth it.

jewunit I think you would like the third one, their self-titled.
it doesn't have the noisiness of the first two because John Cale left the band. the songs are actually very chilled out and melodic.

I'm only gonna listen so I can say for a fact how terrible it is. I don't even know who John Cale is, but I imagine he wasn't the only drugged out crackpot that made shit that somehow became cult status.

John Cale was the classically trained welshman who gave them their "experimental" side.
All of that cacophonous violin = John Cale.

Oh good, that was the worst part. Even worse was seeing Times New Viking do a show of Velvet Underground songs with a violinist who played WORSE shit than that.

So their albums go from insufferable to boring? Man, they were on to something.

Velvet Underground and NIco is an incredible album- probably influenced a lot of artists you listen to jewunit, why so angry?

I know they influence a lot of artists I listen to. I still think it's terrible. Not angry.
And Nico is such a god awful singer, I don't know what they were thinking.

THIS I agree with you on one hundred percent. She was just a pretty face that andy warhol forced on the band, the reason they named the album "the velvet underground & nico" was because they refused to accept her as a band member. She ruins the songs that she sings on, which is why I always listen to the demo version of All Tomorrow's Parties where lou sings.
