i'm not one to tell you if they are strophs
but i think i know the ones you're talking about. i've found lots of those bright orange ones around woodchip, and i have often found subs near them. keep looking and wait for more rain if you think where you're looking is too dry. and i've seen lots of subs around lately in south eastern and eastern suburbs
good luck

Went out for a quick walk with the dog today.
I found an absolute tonne of Stropharia aurantiaca (Leratiomyces ceres) today, I am talking 1000's.
Leratiomyces ceres are surely the most common thing to find in wood chips, always gets my hopes up, and the shoots em down when i get closer.

Newbies,Noobs I found a great piece of info for Beginners. Collecting wild mushrooms can be dangerous, especially when you are a noob or just simply new to the game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3FV_YbjlYI These video series on youtube will introduce the novice shroom hunter to the basics of field identification! It focuses on members of the genus Psilocybe (MAGIC MUSHROOMS), which can be found in urban and suburban environments! SO PLEASE!!! IF YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT SO EVER WHERE TO START AND HOW TO IDENTIFY MAGIC MUSHIES THEN WATCH THIS VIDEO AND STOP FILLING THIS THREAD WITH UNNECESSARY TRASH OF NONSENSE WE DON'T WANNA MAKE A JUNGLE OF JUNK OUT OF IT! FOR FUTURE NOOBS!!!!!! PEACE OUT LOL
Also me dog found these in mulch grassy area. Its a first sniff out of this season for me.

I'm so jealous of you people who find patches just while you're out and about. It's slim pickings in the SE suburbs near me atm, although I don't know of many patches near me (and I've looked!).

Im so jealous of people in the se suburbs. The west is a barren landscape compared to it.

Its a totally different climate on the Western side (Mediteranian) as compared to the Eastern (Maritime). I always found it interesting that the city was built right between two different climatic regions.

I know what you mean. When I go hunting I always take paper bags for mushrooms and plastic bags for trash.

Dark Spore On Top of Cap? [Re: spong]
#10304315 - 05/07/09 06:20 PM (3 years, 21 days ago) |

Hey, I found a nice patch, subs of various age / development. Some were relatively perfect, some had pieces of caps missing etc., but it was the first time i'd come across some that were well formed but seemed to have a dark marrone or brown (depending on the acuity of your rods and cones) spore coat all over the top of the caps? Is this a bad sign? Is it even spores? Should I not eat them?
Regards,
DRKFCK

DRKFCK you should probably take ur camera back there, use your macro if possible, and take photos of them, try and get the stem and gills in shots too. also do a spore print, that will make it a lot easier for people in this forum to identify.
but what i would recommend more for you to do is START A NEW "ID NEEDED" THREAD with all that info in it.

Most of your photos appear to be of Stropharia aurantiaca, non-active and apparently gives you explosive diarrhea
