It is a matter of conditioning...time and repetition. Last night I did 728 snatches with a 16kg in 42 minutes. It took a year to build up to that.

That's sick. My traps and Roms continue to get more tender

I have always had the hardest time targeting that areas. And even when I lifted heavy, shoot, even when I lifted heavier and was "on", I could rarely get them.

Amazing what a little 20 pound hunk of iron and the proper movement  can do

Yeah, this is so stinking effective (or is it affective) I can see how a person who is dedicated can rapidly progress. There are parts of my traps, up front on top of my collar bone, that I have NEVER felt touched before.

WOW &

It's so exciting to see you so completely obsessed whattheheck.  It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside :heartkettlebell:

I've decided I'm not going to worry about vo2 max for a long while - I'm just going to progress through the PM & ROP with progressively heavier bells.  Once i'm satisfied with my strengh & size, I'll work on my extreme conditioning (i.e. Vo2max)

I'm drunk as fuck.

nor should you watch The Colbert Report while doing snatches.

Dont remember if I posted this or not but back in the fall I was doing a some snatches in front of the tee vee and Colbert said something hilarious on my down swing and instead of having my abs nice and sucked in for support I let out a big laugh and damn near herniated a disc.

It really me back for a few weeks.

Yeah, my traps are still very sore, this is great. I was pressing 35/40/45 in straight presses and 30/35/40 for Arnold presses and they weren't hitting me anywhere near like what this did. Unreal.

Wife and I just got done. 25 minutes of sweat and grunting and screaming. I am SO proud of her! She hasn't had the chance to really work out the past 10 years, having and recovering from and raising our children and all. She's always been somewhat timid in areas she's not comfortable with, but she has taken to this. We were killing it! (Well, for us)  Hopefully I'll get my set of bells on Monday.

I'm still shaking 30 minutes later. This is unreal. You guys, and all of those who are advanced must be monsters in so many areas.

That's the difference here. I used to smoke herb and hit the gym in my bodybuilding days, especially at our little 24 hour hole in the wall iron gym. But the day I tried to do this high????

Kettbell +  :gethigh: = :suicide: + ::puke:

Hey guys I have been having a problem with my piriformis muscle which is stopping me from using kettle bells. Two Fridays ago I played squash with a bit of a tight back from working out.  Anyways all the sudden changes in direction, and diving onto my hip, along with stress of kettle bells from the week before made my piriformis start spasming after sitting on it for two days (so on Sunday two days after squash).  I had a very tight glute the Saturday and sunday as well from squash and kettle bells and I feel like this tightness, along with that in my back just made the piriformis go into spasm.  And since sitting aggravates it, and I am in the midst of exams, it is not a good combo for me right now.  And anything that stops me from exercising is terrible, but at least I can still do Yoga and some upper body work.

My back had this terrible knot in it, but on Thursday I was tripping on Mescaline and this friend of mine said this Hebrew phrase, and played a special riff on the guitar and I felt the knot in my back just melt away  (sounds crazy I know, but my back never felt better than then).  I was listening to my friends jam while I was on mescaline (It was so amazing, I broke down crying while having a whole body orgasm from the music--Mescaline is my new god) and during this my back was releasing more and more.  Anyways after the special riff I was so amazed, I had a knot in my back the was excruciatingly painful to work at, and with some mescaline and music it just went away completely.

Unfortunately though, it didn't help my hip.  Anyways so I have this tight piriformis which is pushing on my sciatic nerve and causing discomfort (not too much pain at this point luckily).  I have some stretches that help, and yoga relaxes it really well, but it is still being stubborn.  I will go see a physio if it persists, but I was wondering if any of you had some kettle bell piriformis wisdom for me.

I ordered a foam roller online to help me use trigger point release to get rid of the knot, and with that and stretching I am hoping I can get it back to a place where I can workout my hips again.

Now I need to set down some background on this hip though.  Seven years ago I flew off my bike and landed on this hip, and my Illiac crest is quite deformed as a result.  I am really hoping that this injury is not the revenge of the mountain bike accident (On an unrelated note, I want to mountain bike so badly, lol).

Anyways as for kettle bells I find that when I do a swing motion, I feel very slight pain, more like discomfort to the right of my sacrum (I think) where the piriformis connects to the back of the hip.  This only happens is I go  a bit low on the swing, if I don't drop down so much I don't really feel it.

Now this is all quite convoluted, I'm sorry, but I was wondering if anyone had some info on how to prevent piriformis syndrome, or how to come back into kettle bells.

I have become convinced that a solid ball of iron is my exercise future, but I need to wait until I am feeling 100%.  I want to buy a kettle bell when I go home in may, so I am aiming to have it healed by them.

One thing this has taught me though, is that I really know nothing about working out, or preventing injury exercising, and this is a great learning opportunity for myself.  I was too enthusiastic and excited and over worked myself, and really did myself in with a hard squash game afterward.  I know now never to play squash with too much tightness, as it leads to injury.  And that I need to get my own kettle bell and space out workouts evenly to not put too much stress on my muscles in a single day.

Finally, I need to work into it a bit slower this time.  I really jumped into kettle bells and didn't spend enough time reading about them as I had studying to do.  So I feel this summer will be a great time to learn and train.

So in conclusion, if anyone has something about piriformis syndrome they think would help, please share, otherwise I am going to take a few more weeks off until I can get my own bell and then start back into it slower, so my muscles have more time to adapt to the new stresses.

Also, I just find it Ironic that I injured my ass from  being too enthusiastic, just squeezed that glute a bit too tight .

True, those guys know their shit.

I had my private session with an RKC today - it was intense!  We started with lots of stretches & a few halos.  We worked on my: swing, one-armed swing & crossovers, the wall squat, the (away from the wall) squat, the two-handed and one-handed high pull, the clean, the press, and the snatch.

I was really getting my ass kicked- she did a great job.  My form is going to be so much better now, it's rediculous.

I've got a job interview tomorrow morning - everyone send good vibes my way! :mushroom2:

Hey all, I was was thinking about investing in an RKC training session. I'm such a fanatic when it comes to form I think it may be worth it even though I've read all these books and seen a little video action of what to do.

You think it would be worth it at this stage, an ounce of prevention vs a pound of cure sort of deal?

I think you should get a bit of solid practice in with all the main movements before you see an RKC (swing, TGU, snatch, C&P, squat).  Since I had been doing KBs for a few months and had decent form already we were able to get through quite a bit of material during my session yesterday.  We'd swing for a bit, she'd tell me everything I was doing wrong, how to fix it, and once I demonstrated that I knew my weakpoints and knew how to fix 'em - we moved on.

Private training sessions are no cheap thing, so making the most out of your time there is key.

Just my .02 :awesome:
