This is how you know the discussion on cannabis is changing

Contessa Brewer and another female reporter on msnbc today, around 1:00, were talking about a drug bust where 5000 pounds of marijuana was seized. Normally on a news show like that, you would hear both of them commend the police, make a quip about how the streets are safer now, and move to the next story. Instead, Contessa looked to the other reporter and said, "imagine how much money that would be worth if it were legal and taxed" and they got into a big discussion on how much better it would have been were marijuana legal, and how much money its worth, and how much taxes could be collected... and ended with, "well, thats the argument, right?"
Yeah.
Times are changing.

For once my skepticism is unjust. Awesome.
I just wonder what sort of time frame we're in.

I could see it happening within 5 years.

"There is a world beyond ours, a world that is far away, nearby, and invisible. And there is where God lives, where the dead live, the spirits and the saints, a world where everything has already happened and everything is known. That world talks. It has a language of its own. I report what it says. The sacred mushroom takes me by the hand and brings me to the world where everything is known. It is they, the sacred mushrooms, that speak in a way I can understand."

Haha Coaster, no, I don't work for NORML. I wish I could get a job at a place like that, some sort of activist group. I'm very good at researching, compiling, and presenting data through writing and especially through speeches. *nudge nudge NORML if you're listening* But in the end, I'm not doing this for myself. I can't even smoke the herb right now because of the last phase of probation... although that will be over soon (I can smoke at the beginning of each month, thats it). I just really, really feel strongly about this issue and I'm trying to urge as much action as possible. I'm also trying to build morale!

I'm one of the most optimistic people about moving forward with legalization...however I was just wondering what the similarities are with the times now and the legalization movement back in the 70's....I'm too young to know but I am really hoping now is different than back then

Desert, the biggest difference:
Even back then, only 33% of people have smoked marijuana.
Now, 42-47% of people have smoked depending on what survey...
and 57% of people age 18-28 have smoked.
Meaning that the number is going UP, even now.

More good news every day! As the legalization movement becomes more and more mainstream, we get ever closer to reaching the critical mass of public opinion needed to really get big things done.
Great job with the updates, keep them coming!

In 2012 i see this as a big issue when the puppets are running for office. Everyone will want to legalize it then, because it will be an even bigger subject then. Thats going to be obamas tool to his second term. Well, that and whatever crap he has us in the middle of by the end of this term.
