Hey hey hey....
So here are my babys: how are they looking?

I decided to take last years seeds and plant them. I just got the run-of-the-mill cactus earth and threw the seeds on top and then soaked them in some fungicide laced water for an hour, and put them in some ziplock bags under a couple 60 watt lights for two weeks and here they are. Presto. Magic.
I heard that the red tint is normal from a number of sources and from another that they are getting burnt.
The temp is 77 (25) in the daytime. When can I leave them out of the plastic bags? After one month?
Have a lophy day.

Looking good! Take them out of the plastic bags slowly acclimating them to room humidity around 6 months, I think you can do it earlier but it it shouldn't harm them at that stage.

Nice looking seedlings. You going to do some grafting? You should give it a shot.

they look good
sowing seeds from your own plants is always nice, at least a good germination rate is almost a guarantee
i wouldn't leave them in high humidity for more than 2-3 months.

Wow! Nice germination quite few coming up. You planning on growing them out or doing a few grafts? I've got a few Lophophora Kooehresii's coming up I plan on grafting for a change of pace bought 10 Periskiopsis to play frankenstein with.

Cool. Thanks everyone for your input.
I'll leave these guys in their sauna for a couple months then.
Should I remove the failed seedlings?
And about grafting... I am totally into it. I'll post some pics tomorrow of my recent grafts....
Keep on lophing....

Just make sure you don´t take off the plastics at once, start by poking holes on it, and more holes, and then big holes then you take the whole thing out.
You should look into grafting, grafting a seedling like yours to a Pereskiopsis or a columnar rootstock would sure boost up seedlings growth.

Any seedlings that have not made it should be removed for sure, could be a point of contamination.

Here are last years and this years grafts... all of my seed came from the three grafted lophs growing in the same pot. They are in paradise.

The new graft on the spachianus was attacked by my loph munching cat... I hope it takes.
And notice the crustaceans on the peruvianus...I am taking those guys off with a toothbrush tomorrow.

Damn man. That sucks. My cats have learned to respect my plants. They know an ass beating will occur otherwise. Sorry, but nothing is touching my plants.

The loph pic in my sig (left pic), yeah that one that I spent $75 on. Well one of my cats decided to stand on top of it. It was like an elephant standing on one of those circus balls. I freaked. An ass beating ensued.
I'll be damned. One of my cats just jumped on my keyboard getting away from the other one

Actually that cat Balls and my other Koko, well, they are my children, basically since I don't have any of the human kind yet.
Even though they have destroyed countless plants and lophs and vases and rugs and everything else, I still can't find a way to be mad at them...
But this is a whole different discussion.
Hey Mods, how about a pet forum for pet junkies!?

What is the best stock/best tek for grafting baby lophs?
I don't want them to turn into frankenstein looking creatures via pereskiopsis.
Does the stock have to be a certain size? Do I need to cut the baby with a razorblade and just throw it on top or does it need to be held down?

For seedlings perskiopsis is the best choice. Type impale graft into the search box. It works nicely.
For larger ones, almost any columnar cacti will work. Trichocereus, Cereus, Stenocereus, and Blue Myrtle are all fine choices.
