LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Little Rock police say a drug informant pointed to the wrong door before detectives and SWAT team members broke into the wrong apartment during a drug raid this week. Officers used two flash-bangs for distraction and a ram to knock the door open. Officers handcuffed the resident but released her a short time later after realizing their mistake. Police spokesman Lieutenant Terry Hastings says officers apologized to the woman and her daughter who were in the apartment. When detectives searched the neighboring apartment, they found drug paraphrenalia and two plastic bags they suspect contained marijuana. The suspect was not home.
The manager of Barton Oaks Apartments, Cathy Seifert, says police have been trying to make things right, and are taking steps to reimburse the company for the damages to the door and some carpet.

People should just start throwing flashbangs in cops' houses. When a couple of them realize that you can die from the shock they might start using them only for counter-terrorism purposes.

In all honesty, this isn't that bad compared to a lot of the no-knock/drug-informant-based raids.
2 flashbangs used... disorienting and scary, sure, but at least they weren't fragmentation grenades or something. Not to mention that, within that context, they have a legitimate use: to disorient suspects and make entry easier due to that disorientation.
I don't agree with it, but I understand why they're used.
But the biggest thing that stands out here is that they admitted that they were wrong and apologised AND are replacing the door.
Hell, not even Cheye Calvo, mayor of some town in Prince George County, VA has gotten an admission of wrongdoing and they killed his dogs while they were running away.
Quite frankly, I couldn't be more stunned if I'd been hit with a flashbang myself.

No, I know that... I'm simply saying that flashbangs aren't as dangerous as many people think they are. They have 3 primary effects: Very bright flash, very loud bang, and a small concussion wave. Minor secondary effect of some smoke, and that's about it.
My main point was that I'm surprised almost to the point of shock that the police have admitted they were wrong AND are compensating the victim for damage they caused. That's damned near unheard-of with the vast majority of raids like this.
I also think it's an awesome restriction to impose on police and may well cut down on the overwhelming number of no-knocks-gone-wrong.

They dont detonate, they deflagrate. If 4.5gr Ammonium perchlorate/aluminium mix were detonated the shell would be blasted to (pretty sharp) bits travelling faster than a speeding bullet
