soil-like smell and mutant mushrooms - what contam is this and how did i get it??

Well I just harvested 2 mono tubs and have 4 more to harvest soon. The tubs pinned like crazy, but produced copious amounts of tiny mutated mushrooms. I will post pica tonight, but if you check my gallery I have a few pica labelled as weird pins which were from a small tray I made a while ago which exhibited the same symptoms.
Anyway, the tubs never fully colonized. My temps were very low during colonization so I think that was a big factor, as well as this possible contam. As soon as I opened the tub to harvest I could tell that the smell wasn't right. Its difficult to describe, the closest thing I could think of us soil, but not a nice kind of soil smell. Anyway, I started picking the mushrooms and right away I could feel they were softer than usual. I opened a couple and the insides looked bruised (not sure if that was me or not). Many of the mushrooms had an odd light streak stretching vertically down the stem. The mushrooms were stunted in their growth overall.
Does this sound like anything anyone else has experienced? Their is nothing visible on the substrate to show a competitor mold, so I'm guessing it must be a bacterial contam.
All 6 of my mono tubs have this distinct smell. I can't figure out where this contam was introduced. I started with cloning some clean mushrooms to an LC. I then tested this LC on some BRF cakes with absolutely no signs of contams. I used the lc to knock up some rye bags which colonized without too much trouble. No signs of contams. When spawning the rye smelled like mushrooms, exactly as it should. I pasteurized my substrate using the pillowcase method, draining it in my sink when done. I think I forgot to clean the sink with alcohol before squeezing out the water... Could this have cobtamed the spawn? I have also been less clean than normal with my spawning procedures (not showering beforehand, not spawning in still air). I figured this wouldn't matter considering RRs claims that only contaminated spawn will result in contams before first flush.
Anyone have any ideas what this contam is and how I could have avoided it? Anybody have any theories as to if these mushrooms are safe? I got 4oz dry off the first flush of the first of 6 tubs... If I lose all 6 tubs to this contam it will be a big setback for me. What do you guys think?

I know the smell you're talking about. My last tub starting getting smelly like that after a couple dunks/drains... your mention of the unclean sink makes me think it's a bacteria that grows in standing water. Maybe I didn't drain my tray thoroughly enough, maybe some old dishwater or something sitting in your sink leached into the bulk bag? Whatever it is, soon after I noticed the smell my tray stopped fruiting. I already had a few flushes from it, so I just figured it was exhausted.

Sounds rather different from my situation actually. This smell seems to have been there from before the first flush for me.

But I imagine the funk is the same... the difference just seems to be the point at which the contamination was introduced. Either way, the few mushies I got after the smell started were just fine. I would suggest dehydrating 'em real good before consumption, but you mentioned that yours feel softer than usual... if they're squishy that seems like an issue to me.
Also, after a bit of reading around I've discovered that mold likes to give off a nice rank dirt smell, and isn't necessarily as visible as, say, trich. I think my situation involved some mold starting to grow in either my casing or the layer of verm at the bottom of my tray. I suppose it could have been my perlite, it's kinda old... I'll scoop it out and bag it for a couple days to see if the smell persists.
