Sci-Fi Is Now SyFy

In an apparent effort to come up with a hipper image, the Sci Fi channel is changing its name to SyFy, TVWeek reported Sunday, saying that an official announcement of the name change will be made today (Monday). It quoted Dave Howe, president of the network, as saying: "It gives us a unique word and it gives us the opportunities to imbue it with the values and the perception that we want it to have." He told the trade publication that feedback from 18-34-year-olds in focus groups indicated that "SyFy" was the way many would refer to the network in text messages. "It made us feel much cooler, much more cutting-edge, much more hip, which was kind of bang-on what we wanted to achieve communication-wise," he said.
In another attempt to again cater to the tweens and the annoying teeny boppers of this hannah montana, highschool musical generation. Why does the sci-fi channel have to worry about being cutting edge or hip. They have battlestar gallactica and stargate sg-1 for christ sake.

I like the SciFi channel. It lets me get into the visual world of fantasy and science fiction when I'm bored.
The only 3 channels I really watch are the History channel, Scifi, and Spike.
But SyFy just sounds retarded.

I've never heard of or seen anyone refer to Sci-Fi as syfy because its fucking retarded. If its not broke dont fix it.

People who watch that channel are at leastsupposed to be able to spell "Science Fiction" correctly, AND know what the abbreviation means...

Figures. Goes along with the rest of the illiteracy in America. Kind of like the Burger King picture menus. They have pictures of all their meals on a menu so people who can't read can order the items they want by pointing.

Im used to seeing those funky commercials between shows where it would show like an old guy and like a huge man eating plant would sprout from his head and the logo for sci-fi would appear while that weird star trek esque music tune played. Now ill be seeing those same weird commercials but with the words "Syfy" it doesnt look the same at all. There too many Y's. It's not aesthetically pleasing at all. Can we form a petition to stop these fuck nuts from messing with our channel?
