Is there something wrong with my cakes?

As I was inspecting my cakes, I noticed that there was a puffy white coating. I searched around and I think it may either be lack of FAE or cobweb. What do you guys think?

That is perfectly normal. Cobweb looks nothing like that at all. Click on search our forums in the top right corner and type in what you want to know. You can filter it so the results only come back as trusted cultivator posts which is all the correct info.

Thanks, so is it a sign that it is close to pinning?

Not necessarily. It's just healthy mycelium doing its thing, breathing, colonizing the verm around the cake. As long as you waited 7 days after full colonization to birth then they will almost always pin in 2 weeks or less.

No they aren't hyphal knots. You will know when you see hyphal knots, they are only around for 12 hours before they become primordia.

It's been about eight days since I've birthed, so I guess they are on track. Thanks for the replies.

if you birthed them as soon as hitting 100% the myc will be consolodating its hold on the substrate, if you leave them in jar an extra week exposed to sunlight the will pin quicker next time

I did wait seven days, but the myc. stalled a little bit. Maybe it was still going a little slow in the middle of the jar.

if i can i always eat fresh from the cake, thats a milder onset but quite rounded trip i feel. not always possible tho, i have a good recipe for tea, the onset with tea is somewhat stronger and i feel is more psychadelic. ill prolly be typing it out again more than likely so ill put it in my journal and post up a link for you.

Thanks. I also heard that you almost always get extreme stomach pains and feel sick. Is this really true?

you may experience a little of what feels like motion sickness if the floors start swaying etc. ive never felt like im gonna puke or had pains from cubes, thought i was gonna die yes but didnt feel any discomfort.
amanita muscaria grows round where i live, that comes with nausia and pains sometimes. and thricocereus something or other made me delerious + shit green slime, that was prolly worst 8 hrs of my life.
anyways i digress heres the recipe for lemon and honey tea.

Ah, cobweb, my mortal enemy. Why do you hurt me so?
One of the pluses to growing your own mushrooms is you get to decide when to eat them. ^^ I personally think the best trip happens when the mushroom is dry, but not cracker dry. When the outside seems dry, but if you crack it in half, you see some liquid. It's dry enough to be more concentrated, but not so dry as to have lost some potency. Bare in mind, this stores about as well as wet shrooms (which is to say, not at all)...

I have never experienced stomach problems when eating, I think it depends a lot on your diet. e.g. What your stomach is used to digesting. IMO

Still no pins, but the myc. is still puffing up on the bottom.
