Making cakes early
    #9903657 - 03/03/09 01:50 PM (15 years, 28 days ago)

Can I mix up my verm and BRF, and pretty much do everything up to boiling them (i dont have a pressure cooker, so Im using PF-Teks boiling method) early? As in do every step up to boiling them for 90 minutes, a day or 2 or 3 BEFORE I boil them to sterilize? will this be okay? Should I refrigerate to keep the moisture in?

yeah, chuck them in the fridge and it should be fine for up to a week i would think.

you cant just boil to sterilize, you need steam or a pressure cooker.  pressure cooker is the only way to guarantee it's done right.

Id wait to make everything until the day you can boil them as well.

I wouldnt gamble on losing the moisture in the jars and such.

I'd say so.  I mean I see presteralized jars for sale on ebay all the time so im sure they don't make them up the day you order.  I made my jars 4 days before I got my spores b/c I was soo giddy.  And so far 10/10 have da-white on them.

Well, yeah, you can do it... I just don't see why you'd wait to sterilize them.
When I was doing BRF cakes, I'd wait about 3-5 days after sterilization to see if any mold had developed to make sure it was fully sterilized and ready to be inoculated (because at that time I didn't have a Pressure cooker)
