wtf entering power saver mode?
    #9881950 - 02/28/09 01:51 AM (15 years, 1 month ago)

ok i use a sony lapyop. i dont have a TV at my apartment, i have a large 24 inch dell monitor. i just have a bunch of seasons/movie on my laptop and watch everything on my monitor.

anyway i have a problem. every once in a while my monitor would enter enter 'power saver mode' and nor work. moving the mouse, fuckning with my laptpin in any way deosnt bring it out of it.

i think its a comouter problem because every time it happened i would do a system restore it would start working agin. but this last time i did a sytem restore, and that didnt fix it.

any ideas? this is the monitor im using if it makes a differnce

check all your plugs

right click on the battery meter in your system tray (if you're using windows) and open power options. you can mess with the battery setting here. my guess is that your laptop is set to go into power save mode after a certain period of time without being used. this is probably why you encounter it when watching movies and not touching your computer for an extended period of time.

i leave mine plugged in most of the time, so i have it permanently set on high performance to avoid this.

Next time it happens, unplug the monitor then plug it back in. Power saving mode usually means the signal has been lost.

So, how do you get the monitor working again?  Hitting the power button to turn it off and then turning it back on?  Does that fix it?

Have you asked the manufacturer?

That's crazy that you have to go through a system restore to bring it back.

Have you ran any anti virus/spy ware?

Have you unplugged the monitor from the laptop to use the laptops screen and look at the processes running?  Google any process that looks unfamiliar and find out what it is.

What program do you use to watch movies?  I'm pretty sure WMP has advanced options that prevent power saving mode from coming on.

And if the problem continues, I agree with zouden, contact the manufacturer of both the laptop and the monitor.

After you play with the laptop, turn the monitor off, then back on.  If you get display, then probably a problem with the monitor.  If you do not get display, then a problem with the laptop.  If a laptop problem, most likely hardware, but I would reinstall to ensure not software.

i get display. when the monitor is plugges into my laptop and turns on, it power button almost immediately turns orange from white and its enters power saver mode

if i unplug the monitor the power button goes back to white, the monitor turns back on (its still powered from the wall) as in the power light turns white and the screen says some shit about no plug.

im gonna contact dell now

lol, well i called dell and was on the phone with them for a little, they said the monitor was 'performing' normal that it was a computer setting issue. so i called sony and was on the phone with them for a few hours, uninstalled and installed video drivers and graphic pack updates and shit and it still wouldnt work, so i said fuck it. went to best buy returned the monitor, and the 50$ speakers i bought for sound. dished out an extra 330$ and got this
