Legalization WAS around the corner in the 70s - Jimmy Carter wanted to decriminalize it, and legalization probably would have followed. Then Reagan came in.
The 80s and 90s were like the lost decades of reasonable drug discussion. Just watch any movie from that era which portrays drug use (especially mainstream movies) and you will see what i mean.

btw, il is super liberal
Wow so you have a MMJ bill proposed. I mean, how could any rational thinker not suppose that full legalization will occur within a year?
Here in MT, which is anything but liberal, we ALREADY have MMJ, approved by the voters. Legalization isn't coming any time soon. Hell, they've had MMJ for a decade in Cali (hint: a whole fuckton more liberal than IL) and they still haven't legalized it. You make the claim that IL is liberal (you must live in Chicago) yet the facts you use to prove it belie the claim. The fact is, besides Chicago IL is fairly conservative.
That's true that besides Chicago, IL is conservative, but liberals still have a large majority in the state...
Over 70% of the state is in favor of removing penalties for MMJ. And look at california, they are proposing legalization after having MMJ for a few years.

Ever seen half baked?
And my point on IL is that you're crazy if you think it'll be legal in a year. The guy's bill in CA probably won't make it through, so I think you can draw a correlation that it's at least a decade after a medical initiative passes that legalization will occur. Not to mention that legalization is a federal matter (though not constitutionally), not a state one.
