First grow - PF tek - PE MS (Pins & Pics)
#9757827 - 02/08/09 12:52 AM (4 years, 3 months ago) |

So I started by slowly collecting materials with the plan to go PF tek with a Shotgun FC
12 1/2 pint mason jars perlite vermiculite 12 cc syringes and needles of all sizes 2 clear plastic tubs triple brick Eco-earth coir Isopropyl Alcohol 70% digital thermometer analog hygrometer Probably a fiew other things
Substrate: Simple PF tek style; verm, BRF, water; 2:1:1 Dry verm layer on top GloveBox:

1/13/09 Inoculated 10 PF style 1/2 pint jars with a PE multispore syringe from sporeworks...

5 jars received about 3 ccs total, the other 5 recieved about 5 ccs total (after I noticed I wasn't really juicing them as much as I'd have liked)
1/14/09 - 1/15/09 Jars incubated in the pantry at a fairly consistant 74F, ambient temp
1/16/09 Inoculated a light Karo syrup LC; 100ml water 4ml Karo light corn syrup 1ml PE multispore Pressure cooked for 15 minutes at 15 PSI
1/17/09 First signs of growth on 2 jars. Notably, the jar that received the large chunk of germinated spores is one of these, and it just exploded...

1/18/09 6 jars total now show signs of growth
1/19/09 LC showing growth; It's getting 'stirred' (sloshed) about 6 times a day or so, mostly cause I just can't quit messing with it...
And my favorite jar...

________________________________________________________________________ :::UPDATE:::
1/20/09 - 1/21/09 My best jars are coming along nicely, maybe 15% colonized
1/22 - 1/26 My first and main project is coming along nicely...
My jars can be grouped into thirds... about 3 jars apiece; 50-80% colonized, 25-50%, and lame

My LC looks awesome, like a grouping of star clusters:

I used it to inoculate those grain jars on 1/22 and 1/25 the first is the one with the coffee filters on it, but I hated the WBS mix I bought, so I strained out all the millet and inoculated the other 3 on 1/25, also with the LC
ALSO used the LC to inoculate those 1/4 pints on 1/24... no growth as of 1/26
today (1/26) I received a 'blue meanie' print and created an MS syringe and some SitR LC
I leave you with some hot rhizo pr0n:

============================================================ +++++++++++++ANOTHER UPDATE 2/3++++++++++++ ============================================================
2/3/09
My jars are at 21 days since inoculation.. about 7 are 100% colonized, and I plan on birthing five that have been 100% for about 3 days this weekend.

In my Shotty FC:

****Weekend update****
2/6/09 Birthed 6 cakes... received almost exactly 24 hours dunk

2/7/09 Dunk on roll on these babies... placed in shotty FC:

PIN UPDATE
2/13/09 Remaining 4 cakes get dunked and rolled, placed in the shotty FC
2/19/09 First pins popping up on my early cake..

2/23/09 PE sure seems slow, here they are coming right along

2/25/09 And today, I'm thinking about harvesting soon... even though they're not very big.. I dunno, I think I've been spoiled seeing everyone's monster grows

The rest of the cakes are pinning pretty good now too, should be a full flush this weekend I'm thinking.

Decided to go ahead and post this in cultivation so just in case any noobies come across it, they've got some fresh, by the book, PF tek action...

Looks really clean, I'm on my first grow right now, been about 4 days since inoculation, I'm hoping for similar results.
Good luck man.

Thanks man... These guys really do seem to be hella slow though... I got these spores as a vendors choice for my first grow, and I wouldn't recommend them to any first grower...
But they are pretty... They sure do lighten up quite a bit as they mature... Can any of you guys recommend a harvest time? They are bluing slightly underneath the cap, and the cap is flattening quite a bit from what I've seen of PE... The only thing is they're not quite getting all 'gnarly' at the veil area yet. Any advice?

You can harvest them any time before they drop their spores. You can also harvest them after they drop their spores, but it decreases your chances of decent subsequent flushes.

Slow? That was pretty quick considering they were MS... My ms TC jars took 26-30 days to finish. Though I'm a bit confused as to which of yours were from the LC.
I've read and seen most vets here suggest to pick em when the veil is about to tear... So I guess you are prob. 1 or 2 days away on a few of those on the last cake. Those bigger ones are technically ready, but if it were me I would think about another 8 hours or so? I'm curious too...
But anyways, nice grow man. You kept things simple and that was smart.

I'm going to start my first grow in a couple weeks. The only thing I'm kinda worried about, Is when my jars and colonizing I understand it needs to be in a dark area, Thats not dry but what about the temperature?

Colonizing jars do not need to be in the dark. Temps should be 70-75F

They will colonize in any temperature from 60-100 degrees. The optimal temp is about 82-86. They will colonize just fine in a closet around room temp (68-74) but they will just take a few extra days to finish colonizing.

Yes they actually should colonize in the dark. You want to keep them in proper conditions while colonizing so the mycellium knows it is supposed to be incubating and growing stronger. That way when you birth them and put them in the fruiting chamber they will know that it is time to fruit.

I see your point however, it still is not NECESSARY for them to be in the dark while colonizing.

not so. room temp is ideal for colonization. The inside of the jar is a living organism and it produces heat. The inside of the jar will get to about 80-82 in a room temperature environment.

The way the mycelium "knows" that it's not ready to fruit yet (thus continues colonizing) is the lack of fresh air. light is secondary...
