What I recommend, is take pictures of everything, ID it, and put the picture on a slide show on your computer and use it like flash cards, repeating the name of each mushroom and plant as it comes up. I have never forgotten a plant or mushie learned this way! Next on my list is trees. Its long overdue and will make me a much better mushroom and orchid hunter.

There is a forum called daves garden, they have a Plant ID forum that is very much like this one, but also very different.  I tried it once, an ID request on some random flowers that came up in my yard and it worked great.

That does sound like fun.  I will climb anything, tree or not.

Yea we have these great old oaks with long crazy-looking branches that stretch out all the way to the ground in some cases. And of course there are all sorts of vines and small trunks to climb up. My record is around 20/25 feet :yesnod:

It's a great workout. After all, it is how we evolved to use our muscles in the first place right?

I didn't vote, but I guess I would be somewhere in between a student and an eater. I just plain think mushrooms are cool. Everything about them is cool. I generally just like to find out as much about the outside world as possible. This is the world we live in and nature kicks ass.
I also like the idea of eating things I find outside, whether through gardening or by just stumbling upon them. I am just as happy to find a Ganoderma, Gymnopilus or a Puffball. Doesn't matter to me, just BRING ON THE SHROOMS!

I have no trouble believing that he ate all that stuff without serious problems.  I will take his advice and not eat raw oysters.  Also our california blusher is Amanita novinupta and that clade is usually toxic raw.  Some of the stuff he listed probably contains small amounts of toxins.
