• Leigh Okraski, 32, Boulder, Colo., was sentenced to 30 days in the Lincoln County Jaila and fined $250 for an amended charge of attempted possession of LSD.

Okraski was a passenger in a car with Matthew Holsinger, 23, from Baltimore Md. and Trinh Nguyen, 24. from San Jose, Calif.

The three were traveling through Nebraska and were stopped driving westbound down I-80 in a 2004 Dodge Intrepid. The trooper stopped the car for speeding.

After stopping the car, the trooper smelled the odor of marijuana inside. He asked the occupants about it.

Holsinger, the driver, admitted he had marijuana with him.

The trooper then searched the vehicle and discovered 140 grams of marijuana, 120 grams of hashish, more than 1,000 hits of LSD, a number of prescription pills and psilocybin.

The NSP also reported that Holsinger had approximately $25,000 cash on him when arrested.

At their arraignment, Holsinger told Lincoln County Judge Kent Florom that they were moving from Maryland to Colorado.

Okraski told Judge Murphy that she was “willing to take responsibility for my mistakes” and was “taking steps to get my life moving in the right direction.”

I smell a fucking rat I do.  Noone gets caught with that kind of quantity and that kind of cash and pays $250 without turning all of their friends in.

No, I think the guy with all the money maned up to the fact that the drugs were his. If he didn't then all his friends would get the exact same charge and everyone would get fucked for this guys drug dealing.

The guy who got 30 days probably just told the cops he was trying to buy some LSD from his drug dealer friend and yes he knew there was LSD, but had no idea how much or how many drugs were in the car and that they weren't his.

I don't think there was any rat in this.

The guy who got 30 days is the only one reported in this article to have gotten any time.  If the dude with the cash manned up and said everything in the car was his - hed be looking at felony possession of at least 3 or up to 5 different drugs.  Thats a minimum of 3 to five years depending on  local pot/mushroom laws, and maybe a whole whole lot more.

Lets say the younger kids got off scot free saying "we had no idea" and the old dude said "okay, all that cash and all the drugs were mine".  You think they would charge him with "trying to buy acid" when he had

?

no way.  He told them where he bought it all.

Not only did he serve 30 days in jail and pay $250, he no doubt lost the whole lot of drugs and officers probably seized all his cash.

We must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent mind. This mind is the matrix of all matter."  --Max Planck

The first guy probably said I was trying to get LSD from my friend blah. blah.

The driver named Holsinger had the cash and admited the drugs. His case is still probably in the legal process. It doesn't say anything about him getting off. A drug case that big for a county takes months and months to go through. The guy who pled guilty got a plea bargin because his friend manned up.

Them again the first guy said he is "willing to man up to his mistakes", so we really don't know what's happening. There is too much information missing in this article to come to the conclusion that any rat was involved. I went through the legal process when I was 17 for Burglary, Vandelism, and Grand theft with seven other kids, so I know how the rat fucker works, and I just don't think there is enough information to conclude anything. Especially since they only said one guy pled guilty. You don't get away with that many drugs at the county level for ratting out your supplier unless he's HUGE.

But fuck, maybe there is a rat, I just don't see how you could conclude that there is a rat because this article probably doesn't even give half of the information.

OK... let me clear up some things for you people:

First: There was no rat involved

Second: I am one of the people that this is about (the oldest of the group)

Here is the deal:

We were on our way back from the Rothbury music festival, I had met Matt, the driver recently and ran into him at the post office after work one day. In our conversation, I mentioned that I wasnt getting along with my boyfirend whom I lived with, and needed to get out of town for a bit. He said He was going to Rothbury that weekend and offered me a ride there.
There were 3 of us in the car. Only ONE was a guy (the driver), his fiance was in the pass. seat, and I (another female) was riding in the back. I was alseep when we got pulled over. Matt (driver) got pulled over for speeding (at 5am, with a shitload of drugs in his car, yes, I know, idiotic)
MOST of the drugs, and ALL of the cash (2,500, not 25,000 as the article states)belonged to Matt. There were some various prescription pills found which belonged to Trihn, and some very small (personal use) amounts that were found on the seat with me.
When we got pulled over, the cop said he smelled marijuana (impossible, i beleive, caus all of it was well sealed and in the trunk, and we did not have any in the inside of the car... also no one had smoked any in 2 days. ) I think that the cops knew about Rothbury, and were just WAITING to pull over some hippy kids on their way back to CO or CA.
We were all brought to jail, and kept in separate cells. However, at no time did the police try to find out who's it all was. In Nebraska, state law states that if drugs are found in a vehicle search, it belongs to EVERYONE in the car. We had already told them that we were coming from Rothbury, so it was clear that if they tried to ask us where we got it, all they were going to hear was "off a guy at a festival". I don't think that they even thought finding the source was their jurisdiction, since we were just passing through.
This tactic of charging all people in the car is employed by said state to try to get more convictions (thus more $$) out of each arrest. The town that all this $$ goes to is situated on I80, so I am sure that cash from roadside drug arrests is quite a source of revenue for this little backward ass town.
Now, this is where it gets fucked up: Matt would not own up to the majority of the stash being his. He knew he had a right to remain silent, and he used the hell out of that right that night. One of my cell mates was at his arraignment 2 days later, and claims that he argued with the judge about the amounts they claimed to have found, thus automatically incriminating himself...
I had to call my family from jail and TRY to explain the whole fiasco in a 5 minute phone call. My family hired the best lawyer in that town, who got my bond reduced and I was bailed out. I kept asking for continuances in my case so that the lawyer could keep asking for charge reductions. In the meantime, I attended a drug counseling program and kept employed full-time. Since I had no criminal record to speak of, my charges were eventually reduced to a misdemeanor. I think that the DA knew that the shit was NOT mine.
Matt and Trihn got bailed out also, and showed up ready to plead not guilty. The arresting officer never showed, so ALL THEIR CHARGES WERE DROPPED!!!! Matt did go home to live with his family and attend drug counseling after getting bailed out. But, WHY did the cop not show?? Matt's dad is a multi-millionaire, and I suspect that maybe the cop somehow ended up on a luxury cruise or something at the time of the trial?? Anyway, even though I ~only~ got 30 days and a 500$ fine, there are other costs to me that you are not seeing here. My family had to cough up 5,000 for the lawyer and 5,000 in bond money. I am grateful that they were able to do this for me. The little backwars ass town has a newspaper with a website, and they post EVERYTHING on the internet. If someone looks up my name, this arrest article is the first thing that comes up. I lost my job a few months ago,I have a college education and HAD a career, and now it is virtually impossible for me to find work. Yes, in march, I can get the misdemeanor expunged from my record, but there is NO way to get that article off of google. All because I was fighting with my boyfriend and accepted a free ride to Rothbury.
