I definitely prefer Vice City. The beautiful beach, and relaxing, cheerful music made the game what it was, and launched GTA to heights that it had not seen. San Andreas and GTA 4 are fun but don't cut it for me.

I just didnt like that you couldnt pick your race in SA.
Being a Serb was the best part of GTA4, even though they were at war with my people. Alot closer then niggers

i bought gta IV but haven't even got half way through, and i haven't played it in a month. its just the same old thing over and over again

For me Vice City was the most memorable. GTA 3 had the 'wow its 3d and they didn't mess it up' factor going for it but Vice City took the idea and polished it into a truly great game. San Andreas was impressive but it just didn't feel like new ground was being broken it felt like Vice City with a new (bloody massive) city and some new toys. Perfect for fans but for me it just didn't take my breath like Vice City did. I haven't played the new 'nex gen' gta my WoW addiction won't allow me but I imagine its more of the same with improvements and fancy graphics, well worth a look I intend to give it a bash when I can.
Yay for Rockstar though all the GTA games have been awesome, its nice when a developer actually tries (or seems to try) to follow the idea that the way to sell a lot of something is to make it freakin awesome and not just to release it at christmas.

My favorite is SA. I even loved the "hood" stuff, despite my finding the real-life equivalent being completely undesirable, because it was such a light-hearted and funny version in the game. I liked Vice City too, but the world is just so damn small.
I was very pumped for GTA 4, due to the greatness of SA, but it was a real let-down for me. I haven't even got half way in it, but have no desire to continue playing. It's just plain boring compared to SA.
My biggest complaint in SA is that it's too short. That game could have gone on forever, and I'd have loved every minute of it. I feel that the airstrip missions were too few, and that the game wraps up too quickly at the end. It seems like the story had a lot more to explore but that Rockstar clamped down to fit it into a certain length. I also didn't like that Carl's hometown buddies all sold out, I didn't think that was needed with all that was going on and found it a bit of a letdown. Regardless, I love SA.

I haven't played GTAIV yet but I'll buy it when it's a little cheaper. Vice City rocks! I can play that game for hours, like I could GTA3 before it. I remember when GTA3 came out, how wow'd my friends and i were with its graphics and such. And then VC took it a whole nother level. I like SA, but for me it's just too massive. There are some improvements over VC, to be sure, but for overall style and fun, VC is the best in the series.
