Yep, I'll be going down that same path. My dad said the best advice his father ever gave him was to save your raises. For example:
If you start out making...$40,000 a year, save some percentage.
Then if you get a promotion and make $45,000 a year - live off of 40k and save the 5k. And so on and so forth. ------------
It'll be nice to have all of what i need, some of what i want, and be able to sit back and relax the next time one of these crisis hits the states'.

And the magic of compounding interest is a wondrous thing.

The really great thing was I had my money in CDs and Govt Securities when all this recession shit hit the fan and I lost $0. Any loss of interest lately is offset my tweaking my current standard of living only slightly.
I rarely even think about the countries current economic woes. I think about going hiking/fishing and taking naps instead.

Thanks. It's not the way they say to do it but it's the way people used to do it. And really if they did I wonder what kind of economy we would have? It's an interesting question don't you think? I also wonder what effect it would have on our natural resources and wilderness areas and general quality of living. Are we just here to consume at an ever accelerating pace?

Pretty much. We're here to make our lives the best we can, while we can. It's pretty much every human being's ambition, and is why everyone (including members of congress) act in their own self-interest.
I think if everyone had all their money in CDs and government securities our economy would be much smaller than it is now. The financial markets are crucial: moving money from those who have it (investors) to those who need it (businesses) - everybody wins (investors get returns, businesses get liquidity).
So, yes - our shit hit the fan, and things got screwy because of greed. But it was unavoidable. Sure, people could have "done the right thing" (etc.), but that's not the human way (let alone the American way).

Lol yeah.
Except this story involves me pissing my pants. That story involves a very well educated man using his knowledge to steer the economy on the course he & his board of advisors deems best.

Very much so!
you got rid of all that dribble. now when some random shroomerite stumbles into this thread their brain won't be poisoned by the garbage you were spouting. I don't remember what exactly you were saying, but I rarely contest posts that make sense.
