half the information even on the mainpage is very misleading, it still says to incubate at 86 degrees, but seems like the general consensus is lower in the 70's. It can be very confusing going back and looking at old threads because you never know if its out dated or not.

Well you need to look at how old the post is, then after that try and find one with the last 6 months and see what it says... Or just make a new thread saying you are not sure what thread is accurate, or PM a trusted cultivator or Mod..

The main page should be updated.

I think consolidating all the information that is widely known to be accurate and relevant would still be a better solution.
If all those "daily questions" were readily accessible to anyone with no knowledge on how to use the search function efficiently (you'd be suprised, my girlfriend is the absolute worst at trying to use google...she can't find anything in a timely manner) it would cut down on questions asked in the forum.
I know there's already a FAQ and grow guide sections but if it was all consolidated into one massive knowledge pool that is organized and up to date there would be no need for a completely new forum that would eat the mods and TC's time up.
Just my 2 cents, I'd be glad to help out in any way possible. I owe it to the shroomery community, you guys have been nothing short of extremely knowledgeable and helpful.

one of these day's i want to write down every single thing i've searched for using the search function my computer saves everything i search for in the text box of the search forum, it probably has over 1000 word combinations in it when searching on "how to provide fae to a monotub" you could make your search simpler by typing something like:
monotub fae monotub polyfil monotub fan monotub fresh air monotub air exchange monotub hole size monotub evaporation monotub air circulation
use key words, and so on until you end up finding the post(s) that satisfy your curiosity. its also pretty flexible, you can search so that it organizes the results by date so you only get newer results to your question.
UTSF! LOL jk, im not being that harsh. just saying, you gotta learn how to work with the thing... anything and everything you could possibly want to know, is already on the site tucked away somewhere.
i do agree though, it is hard filtering through some of the old posts sometimes. but there's nothing to complain about getting a lot of results! even though some of them are pretty rediculous... thats what the TC tag is for.

Honestly, if you do the homework you won't have as many questions. I had 250-300 hours of reading on here and watching videos beforeI ordered my first syringe. Now I still come across areas and topics where questions arise. I use the search and after scanning a few posts, I can quickly decypher the best answer to my dilema. Many noobs think this is a pit-stop for a quick way to learn everything all at once. They need to realize this is mycology aka the study of fungal life. It is never ending, we will be studying the characteristics and learning new things until we die. I LOVE IT!

That would work if everyone learned the same way. Not speaking for myself, there are lots of people in the world who just prefer learning by talking to people about their experiences instead of STFU and studying something. One of my best friends is like that.
The mycology wiki seems like a great idea but there are so many situational things that you would still need to address with forum posts.
I think what would be ideal is some sort of voting functionality. It would take some programming work to implement, but something similar to Digg or a "was this post helpful" kind of thing like Amazon has would allow the truly useful posts to be flagged and elevated to the top, without needing to go through and manually update the archives.

If anyone cares for my noob opinion, here goes:
I've learned a lot from the articles by the main page, which means to say: I managed to get my hands on a lot of basic information, I have no way of telling whether or not it is optimal or even just correct, but it was all easy to access.
Here on the boards, honestly, I've learned more from the links in peoples signatures than anything else. Like, that filter made out of the butt of a syringe, or using automotive silicone to make a self healing inocculation hole, forcing air exchange by pulling on a shower cap and so on.
There is so much advanced information that can be reviewed and responded to by the entire community hidden away in old threads and archives, you need to be active within the forum to get to it ... not necessarily a bad thing, that's a matter of opinion.
Me myself, I would be best off if those articles over here (http://www.shroomery.org/4/Grow-Mushrooms) were weeded out, removing articles that are essentially duplicates or at least putting articles that all teach you the same thing in a single subfolder. Then start adding all the decent teks written by members to the cultivation articles.

We used to have that feature, but took it away because it became as useless as the ratings system for users. If people didn't like someone, they'd give the thread a zero rating, even though it might have good info. Likewise, noobs would give a five shroom rating to a crappy thread, thus it became totally worthless. RR

PsychOfMSE said: I don't see anything resembling a wiki on the shroomery. There is the "mushroom info" links, which are nice, but alot of them are outdated or just flat out wrong.
There's no way for the community to edit the teks, weeding out the misinformation and adding in new, proven techniques.
The search function works great if you know how to use it but it is far from ideal.
The whole site is like that. You can add stuff to the main site, delete it, modify it, etc etc etc.

if youre not willing to filter through some threads, why bother doing this at all. its really not hard to find info that one might need.

I think we'd all agree that the main site needs some revision. We are attempting to remedy this problem by deciding, as a group, what info is relevant and what is outdated/incorrect. If you are really dedicated to change, please click the link below and help correct the problem.
