My best pinset yet (MS Costa Rican, Rye->Coir/verm, 50/50+)

Knocked up a couple of pint jars of organic rye berries with a few cc's of leftover spore solution from a strain that i loved but can't buy any longer (Costa Rican). This strain is an amazingly fast and vigorous colonizer. The jars were then spawned to coir/verm and cased with 50/50+ when colonized (my first time using a casing layer with bulk!). I had only ever grown it out on PF cakes before this run, but this strain looks like a great candidate for bulk! I'll be taking clones tonight

Thanks for all the help along the way, everyone. Happy Holidays

Caps opened up and I got a great harvest. Approximately 450g wet from a 6qt tub Very happy. Sorry, pics are slightly blurry.

Lots of weird mutants that you can spot in the first pic.

Nice work Those caps are really light colored. How much light was that tub getting?

It gets about 12hrs light daily from a 26w 6500K CFL. I think the colour of the caps is strain specific more than anything. I looked up the strain on sporeworks.com and even though I didn't buy my spores from there it seems to describe the fruits well.
BTW, just watched Zeitgeist: Addendum the other night and loved it. It's mind blowing! Good to see you spreading the word.

A truly impressive flush from such a small tub. I may have to try coir next. What was your theory behind adding verm to the coir?

Verm improves the texture and provides more moisture retention. You might as well throw in some coffee grinds to help the coir carry beyond the first flush...

I agree, also coir performs well uncased, some say it performs best uncased.
In general casing is optional with bulk subs since they hold plenty of moisture. Verm is a great addition for holding extra moisture and fluffing up the substrate, particularly with poo substratrse
